THE LAST EXORCISM PART II

This is a waste of time. It does nothing to add to the background of the first film. We get our girl from the first movie in some home for troubled youths trying to get her life back in order but at the same time still being haunted by the demon within her. There's nothing really scary or jumpy in this film. The setups for things of that nature are just so obvious that they don't even create a atmosphere for one to be jittery or tense. This film lacks gore or any presentation of serious violence which is something that it really needed. The PG13 rating doesn't help it one bit. Overall, this was quite boring and tedious. A perfect time waster in a bad way.

Grade - D

Post Re: The Last Exorcism Part II
When The Last Exorcism first came out, the general line held it to be a playful twist on a pair of exhausted horror devices--demonic possession and found footage--undermined by an ending without the nerve to sidestep convention in full. Wait until the first film's harshest critics see this mediocre and routine second episode. Opting for a traditional, almost old-fashioned presentation is an interesting choice, but the film is disrupted by fundamental flaws, including lax pacing and a grating reliance on loud musical stings instead of more three-dimensional scares and set pieces. This nosediving franchise hopeful still has one major ace up its sleeve, however: star Ashley Bell, who earned a surprising, but deserved Independent Spirit Award nomination for her performance as Nell, a naive and sweet farm girl who is either unstable or in the grip of a demon, in the first film. She shines again here, capturing her character's blend of fear and longing as she tries to move on and find an honest and productive place in a modern world which intimidates her. She is so strong, in fact, I find myself wishing this were an experimental, character driven dramatic sequel to a horror hit rather than a bland by design option for the teenage multiplex set.
