Re: Germany Box-Office Thread: Skyfall breaks franchise reco
SKYFALL will pass QUANTUM's admissions on Saturday and the 5m mark on Sunday...
CLOUD ATLAS has an okayish opening with around 250,000 admissions...

For what it is, I think the 250,000 admissions opening is really good for Atlas.

Today SKYFALL will pass GOLDENEYE (5.5m admissions) to become the biggest 007 movie since 1977's THE SPY WHO LOVED ME (7.2m)...

INTOUCHABLES is still 1.5m admissions ahead, but SKYFALL has now surpassed the French Überblockbuster in box office...

What could account for such a disparity in admissions vs. gross when there's no 3D in play here? Was The Intouchables seen as a family film? Or did it benefit from a lot of senior citizen discounted admissions? If my calculations are right the average ticket price for Skyfall would be roughly 20% greater than The Intouchables. Has IMAX had enough of an effect for Skyfall over there that it could make that difference, or have ticket prices actually increased substantially over the course of the year, or did The Intouchables lengthy run result in a fair amount of its admissions coming from discount theaters? Any one single factor stand out or is it a combination of all of the above? Also, where do you see The Hobbit ending up now in admissions and gross? Any shot at the 2012 crown for the latter?

One thing is the surcharge for long movies in Germany.
There are almost no IMAX theaters here, so that can't be it.

Mark, do you happen to have a lost on your website somewhere for the biggest openings and totals in Germany for movies with FSK16 and FSK18? Django's big opening made me curious.

749,735/818,771 Indeed a great opening. Not as spectacular compared to the Austrian number but still really good.

Django's doing amazing. Looks like the second weekend won't be that far off from the first. I hope that's happening in Austria too.

Most satisfying weekend ever. A personal favorite of mine opened unbelievable huge and a movie with my all-time favorite actor opened even bigger.

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread: Django is huge
Django Unchained's legs are incredible. Its third weekend is the best for a movie with the 16-rating (somewhat similar to the R-rating) since Tomorrow Never Dies 15 years ago!! In 18 days it reached 2.5 million admissions (beating Basterds as Tarantino's biggest film here) and it is tracking ahead of The Dark Knight, Ted and Gladiator (other 16-rated success stories in Germany). 3.5 million admissions is a lock and I think 4 million is likely too, making it the first movie with this rating since The Matrix Reloaded to hit 4,000,000 admissions. I thinkt that at the end of the year, it might stll be in the yearly Top 5 here, DEFINITELY will be in the yearly Top 10. I don't see The Hangover III or Fast & Furious 6 or Catching Fire or Monsters University topping it. Frankly, the ONLY lock this year to be more successful here is The Hobbit II. I am sure a couple more will outdo it, but not many.
Wow...

Re: Germany Box-Office Thread: Django is huge
On the other hand, last year was terrible for animated films.
The Lorax and Rise of the Guardians flat-out BOMBED, Brave and Wreck-It Ralph disappointed big time.

Mark, do you think any new movie will pass Avatar's admissions in the next 4-5 years?
