There's a theory that she presented because Argo was (going to be) the winner and it serves as decent propaganda for going to war in Iran.

Re: Michelle Obama: Yay or nay?
I had no problem with it. The prestige of the presidency fits the best picture award well. Would have been more 'hurmorous' if it was clinton or W. Michelle fits it well, pure class.

Re: Michelle Obama: Yay or nay?
It was a nice surprise. The GGs brought Clinton, the Oscars the First Lady. It just seems fitting, plus I love Michelle. Nothing to make a fuss about.

You're right, let's all just be good little automaton slaves and bat our eyes dreamily at our benevolent rulers. If we start questioning their motives, they might start bombing us instead of innocent people half a world away. Let's not care about real issues, let's just discuss hair.

Two plus two equals five.
Two plus two equals five.
Hail. Hail.
I understand you are this major anti-government conspiracy theorist who listens to Alex Jones, etc., etc. I get it, I do. Enjoy believing Michelle Obama announcing Argo's Oscar win is part of a subterfuge laced plan to justify war in Iran. I wonder what your theory would be if Les Misérables had won. The Obama march toward war with adorable Parisian street urchins? You interpreting an empty-calories Oscar moment in such a sinister way does nothing to devalue your overall credibility as you discuss these very important global issues. Nothing t'all!

If Lincoln had won, I bet Obama would've tried to abolish slavery.

The Obama march toward war with adorable Parisian street urchins? You interpreting an empty-calories Oscar moment in such a sinister way does nothing to devalue your overall credibility as you discuss these very important global issues. Nothing t'all! I didn't say I believed the theory, I was just presenting it. Granted, presenting it without commenting on it makes it seem like I support it, though truthfully I think it's a stretch and I don't care about it. And incidentally, the corollary to the theory for if another film had won would be that she would not have appeared at all. Well I suppose if Lincoln had won, Barrack might have appeared, since he's supposed be the new Lincoln, though he has little to nothing in common with him other than being from Illinois. And had that happened, I'm sure almost everyone would assume it was just a lovely coincidence and bat their eyes tearfully at the tv. But you're right in that I really should not have expected to generate any interesting discussion by presenting such a theory. This is not the forum for bringing up political issues. This is a forum, for people to say "oh, shut up" and then get back to pondering bang styles. I get it, I do.

Despite what President Carter said about the film's historical accuracy, it's interesting people percieve Argo as an "America, fuck yeah!" movie. If anything, it's highly critical of US foreign policy.
