It's gotta be a sure thing to make 50M in China though, and it's looking like around 305M domestic. So 1B worldwide is happening.

Yeah $1b is a lock IMO now. It should get past $35m in China.

Dunno if i would call $50m in China a sure thing, especially with such strong local competition. $305m domestically also sounds a bit too high. Maybe $303m.

$303 million domestically sounds right, but it will certainly break $0 million in China.

It's funny how underwhelming a performance can feel despite the movie grossing over $1 billion worldwide.

Yep. Isn't this the first time that a $1-billion gross is unanimously (or almost) seen as disappointing?

I feel like underwhelming is a more fittign word than disappointingnhere, but yeah, the gist remains the same.

I think back to 2007...back then the $300 million domestic gross of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End was the first time, a $300 million-grosser felt very underwhelming.

Yeah but at least it was a pretty big surprise overseas.

You mean On Stranger Tides, right? Lecter talks about At World's End.

No, I was talking about AWE too. Stranger Tides was a huge surprise overseas, but AWE was a surprise as well. It decreased massively from DMC domestically, but overseas something vastly different happened.

Meh, i wouldn't call matching Pirates 2's OS figure a big surprise. Wouldn't be the first time something decreases only domestically.

Given the horrendous start it had I am kinda satisfied with $1b though the initial sense of underwhelming performance still stays.

New OS total is now $679m. China probably contributed $18m or $19m.

EDIT:
weekend $18.6m

That's a 3-day start in China right?

It should mostly stay flat next weekend I guess with 7-day weekend..so $1b WW should not have a problem. Let's see how it holds up next weekend for a final WW ranking.

That wouldn't be staying flat then. That'd be dropping .. like a rock.

Fancy The Hobbit outgrossing The Dark Knight. That's awesome, and deserved too. The (much) better film won. Superior in quality and gross. :D

Supposed to? I must have missed that part of The Bible.. or did you read it on the Mayan calendar?

Either way, what you just said is mental.
