Feel free!
The film never even HINTED at a sad ending. Why would you even let yourself think it? That's on you. Not the movie.

 Re: Silver Linings Playbook
Who else here has written for EW and The New Yorker?
Of course, you could actually read what I posted, but I suppose that would require some effort.

Chippy, what's your favorite movie, and why is it your favorite movie?
I'm not baiting you for an attack. I'm curious.

500 Days of Summer. Because it made me feel feelings. Was well written. And told greatly.

 Re: Silver Linings Playbook
Movies don't have to SAY anything, as "The Hulk" so boldly proclaims that this movie should. It's a fucking movie.

At least you have a reason, so you do in fact think a little bit about film. Good for you. Although I don't understand "because it made me feel feelings." Dozens of films a year make me feel feelings.

 Re: Silver Linings Playbook
They do. And some of them end in ways that I don't like and I feel are counter to the film itself.
I imagine you're the sort of guy who wishes The Aviator didn't end on a down note.

 Re: Silver Linings Playbook
Movies can have sad endings. But a movie that was always about things getting better and finding a SILVER LINING!!! it needed a happy ending.

I'm not against those characters ending up together and being happy. I'm against the movie cheating to get that happy ending. I'm against it coming down to a dance competition, where their score not only affects them, but his entire family as well. I'm against the fact that Bradley Cooper stops playing an intriguing, flawed character and in act three is simply Bradley Cooper with absolutely no development toward that change. He's simply one thing the first moment, another thing the next. The film adopts the "movie" ending because it's the easiest way out of the problems it's established. It's lazy. You felt warm and fuzzy walking out. I didn't because I recognized the incongruity as it was unfolding.

 Re: Silver Linings Playbook
The whole movie built up to his characters change. Just because you personally couldn't see it, doesn't mean other, smart people, didn't. We saw it. And it wasn't a "cheat" ending. Sometimes in life, one singular moment can change many lives at once.
Sorry you're so cynical.
