Well, I liked The Happening. I didn't love it, but it had a quality that I just liked. It wasn't on the same level as something like Unbreakable, though.

I didn't like anything that Shyamalan made after Signs...

Anyway, I thought Matchstick Men had a really good twist, I liked it. The Life of David Gale was stupid at the end. I liked it before the twist, though.

Seriously, anyone seen Saw 3D, that was also some ridiculous shit, even by Saw's standards.

I liked the end of Saw. I thought it wrapped up everything great.

Maybe it comes off worse in the film, but I kind of like the twist/have no issue with it

Oh, I am pretty sure that some will like the twist, which is another reason why I didn't want to spoil it to everyone.

The twist in Saw is amazing and why it ranks so highly for me. It's one of the few horror movies that I adore (right up there with Paranormal Activity and Scream)

That's what I meant, sorry. In fact, I think the entire franchise is underrated to a degree. The only ones I thought were "meh" were the fourth and fifth and even those weren't bad.

I enjoy the franchise, obviously. Seen each film at the theatre. Even enjoyed Saw 3D to a certain degree, but the ending was just silly. The only Saw film I outright disliked was the fifth.

I've seen a few in cinemas, but I couldn't begin to tell the difference between them apart from the first which is a horror classic (or will be).

I LOVE Orphan. It is so unbelievably awesome and entertaining, and the twist is just hilarious

I've seen The Perfect Stranger and Orphan, but I don't remember them having twists.

I guess they'll make a good rewatch in a few years.

Lol, it's crazy to have seen Oprhan and not remember it had a twist Do you remember something about the end of The Sixth Sense by some chance?

My memory isn't great for movies that were just ok. I see a lot of movies too, and it's hard to remember every single one. I remember the two girls killing a man outside in the snow, and lots of hard at fitting in stuff with the mother. That's all. No biggie.

You know, on paper the twist for Orphan sounds hilarious. But in the movie it worked. It was actually a fun twist. And the movie is just awesome, like you said. Really loved that one. I was surprised by how great it was.

Several reasons:

1.) It wasn't the horror movie audiences were promised in the advertising. Even if the ending had gone over well with audiences, my guess is that the slow pace and emphasis on drama still would have resulted in a middling reception at best.

2.) The movie basically took its ending from a plot point in a young adult novel called Running Out of Time. Granted, that book introduces its twist much earlier in the proceedings (and there are very different reasons for why the twist happens), but no one who read it and saw The Village is going to miss the similarity between the two.

3.) Honestly, I saw the "monsters aren't real" twist coming from a mile away. If you go in expecting a twist - and many viewers were - that was really the most obvious one to guess.

4.) The dramatic material is hit-or-miss. It has some themes worthy of consideration, but the performances are a bit stiff, the cast feels like it has been drained of energy, and the dialogue is hokey. Shyamalan also approaches the material with a sense of self-importance it never really earns, which I think alienated some audiences.

I like the movie in spite of its shortcomings, but I totally get the hate for it, too.
