 Re: The Last Stand
It's not a big deal, it's just "funny" as I stated before. I loved the movie, so I obviously don't care that much. Jesus.

 Re: The Last Stand
Saw it today and damnit this definitely did not deserve to flop so badly. It's a shit load of fun without being too over the top. Loved the last 20-30 minutes with the final big showdown at the town and then the car chase/fist fight towards the end. Sure Arnie looks kind of old and worn out, but he still kicks a lot of ass for the most part and has some truly badass moments.
I even think I enjoyed it a lot more than The Expendables 2 to be honest.

 Re: The Last Stand
In my opinion, Arnold shines here here and uses his age to his advantage. Arnold will never be an actor's actor, but this is one of his finer performances. I found his portrayal of this world weary sheriff fairly convincing.

John Matrix is a typical Austrian name. I know at least 5 different goat-fucking wurzelsepp farmers who are named John Matrix - sometimes it's combined with another name, e.g. John Matrix Knoblach, John Matrix Heastnochahendl or John Palatschinken Matrix.

I hear Harry Fritzl Tasker is also popular

In Predator, he was Dutch
Speaking of which, did anyone else know that Billy from Predator was in Last Stand.

 Re: The Last Stand
Neither did I, but he was in the credits, and the trivia section at IMDB. He plays a guy named Henry.

He's a crazy nutcase, really. Nobody liked to disagree with him on the set of Lock Up in case he'd flip out and go schitzo.

 Re: The Last Stand
Wasn't there also a bodyguard with him on the set of Predator to protect the other actors?

The Last Stand
I just watched it again and I noticed something great; Arnie is back. Seriously, The Last Stand falls into the same category as Predator, Commando, True Lies, Red Heat, Raw Deal etc., perhaps not on the same level of quality, but it's very enjoyable and very rewatchable - I just have a blast whenever I watch these types of films, and in this case, it gets better with repeat viewings. I enjoyed it this time more than in the cinema. So what I mean is that it's very unlike Collateral Damage, The 6th Day and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, which are pretty bad. It's like Arnie continued where he left off in Eraser, only a lot older.
I love the lines in this film. Some of them are so funny. Ray Owens says to Dinkum (which is just a perfect name for Knoxville and his crazy ways), "do you have stupid names for all your shit?", so funny. Then there's Ray hanging up on the FBI agent (Forest Whitaker) twice and he says "he hung up on me again", which always produces a smile from me. The pacing didn't bother me as much now as I knew what was going to happen and when, but in the cinema it bothered me slightly.
On the second viewing, I can see that the bad guys should have been badder or at least more able to cause damage/kill people that Ray cared for. The young deputy dying was a big deal, but I feel more people should have died. That way it wouldn't have been so jovial and humourous, and a more serious tone would have been created.
B+ - can't wait for [the terribly titled] Sabotage.

This was fairly entertaining. Was so sad when Zach Gilford died.

The Last Stand
I watched it again at the cinema (this time in China) and I noticed that (having seen it twice already) the first 30 or so minutes are quite boring. The first time I watched them, it was cool to see Arnold back and it was nice to follow the story, but by the third time, I just wanted to see Arnold blow people away, which takes some time to get into. Still a good film, and much better than Arnold's last few non-franchise movies (The 6th Day and Collateral Damage, for example), but a few unreal things happen in an otherwise great comeback film for the one-line-giving, badass cop that we all know and love.
B+

 Re: The Last Stand
A very entertaining cop chase movie. I like that it does not take itself seriously. I only wish there were more bizarre actions to accompany the bizarre situation.
