Steinfeld is amazing. Definitely my second or third runner-up. Such disgusting category fraud, though.

She is the best part of that film. The worst part was the script. I never got absorbed into the story.

Wow, weak linje-up (of course most still are very good, but for Oscar nominees from four years, it IS a weak line-up overall).
Anna Kendrick is my favorite, very closely followed by Anne Hathaway.

Supporting Actress is much harder than the Supporting Actor category. There's so many wonderful performances for me here. So tough.
1. Mo'Nique 2. Anne Hathaway 3. Anna Kendrick 4. Hailee Steinfeld 5. Berenice Bejo

I'll never understand the praise for Mo'Nique's performance. It is so by the book and is performed horribly.

I thought she was good (as was the movie) but I don't particularly think she deserved to win. Though I didn't really care.

People love to tease the film, but I love Janet McTeer's performance in Albert Nobbs.

jmovies wrote: I'll never understand the praise for Mo'Nique's performance. It is so by the book and is performed horribly. See, I'm baffled when I read this kind of assessment of her performance. She goes for absolute broke and pulls no punches in her depiction of a horribly abusive character. Yes, she does yell and scream exactly as we would expect a villainous character to do, but she's so on top of the delivery and so grounded and the harsh reality of the circumstances that she stands out as something much more noteworthy than a standard villain. It's also a downright scary performance that gets even scarier when she pretends to be kind and caring for the home visit, and she displays an astute understanding of her character's inability to comprehend the evil she has inflicted upon her daughter during the "Who was gonna love me?" breakdown near the end. And then there's the fact that no one expected she would ever pull off anything even remotely like this. For me, it's between Mo'Nique and Anne Hathaway, who makes one hell of an impression an her brief screen time in Les Mis. But it's a shame - lame pun not intended - that Carey Mulligan wasn't nominated for Shame last year. She would have easily been the most worthy winner in that category.
