 Redacted
Redacted Quote: Redacted is a 2007 American war film written and directed by Brian De Palma. It is a fictional dramatization, loosely based on the 2006 Mahmudiyah killings in Mahmoudiyah, Iraq. This film, which is a companion to an earlier film by De Palma, 1989's Casualties of War, was shot in Jordan.
Redacted premiered at the 2007 Venice Film Festival, where it earned a Silver Lion "best director" award. It was also shown at the Toronto Film Festival, the New York Film Festival and the Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema. The film opened in Spain, and in fifteen theaters in limited release in the United States on November 16, 2007. The film received mixed reactions from critics and a poor financial response in its limited U.S. release.

Redacted
The message of this film isn't new, original, revolutionary or even bold, but it's still true, and it's important to not forget.
From Brian De Palma, the director of Casualties of War, comes this oddly edited, weirdly constructed docu-drama about the rape and murder of Iraqi children and wives by two crazy US soldiers. It's budget must have been very low, and the film's not terribly engaging either, but the point of the movie is honest and true. I'm not sure this needed to be made into a film. Surely it was made into a film to reach the largest possible audience and educate people about atrocities in the Middle East, but it was a limited release and nobody saw it really, apart from festival fanboys. Perhaps a book would have suited this story better.
In the second half of the film, in creeps a cliched bunch of lines that try to make us feel for US soldiers and how they've witnessed awful things, and the film could have done without this. I suspect De Palma felt he was being too harsh on the US regime, so he countered it.

 Re: Redacted
I despise this film. It is so ineptly produced and emptily didactic. A real fiasco which has me wary of seeing any future Brian De Palma films despite my love of Dressed to Kill, Scarface, etc.
Battle for Haditha is a far superior film in a similar vein.

 Re: Redacted
To be honest, Green Zone is my favorite Afghanistan/Iraq era war film. I know most say The Hurt Locker, but I slightly prefer Paul Greengrass' film.
