lol that is overacting to the max...
When you hear Batman yell in TDK and again in TDKR, you get the urge to start laughing at his voice rather become all serious.
That means the actor is overacting. I agree on this point.

2+2 =4 ^^^ It is true though, when you laugh at someone's acting rather take it seriousily, when in fact they are trying to be serious...That means the actor is overacting. It may be all good fun as it adds a bit of humour to a rather dark depressing film.... I remember in TDKR, many in the theater were laughing when batman started yelling in the end... "Whare is the device!!" Lol we were "lol they did it again!"

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
"Manny's comments reminded me of his "cottage humor" days" TDK is a rather dark and depressing film at times... TDKR is a much more tedious dark film and sometimes you focus on certain things that should be serious but actually come out rather silly and as over acting. Its not really hating on the film, and it provides a refreshing source of fun and humour in this rather dark and depressing 3 hour film. There are many examples of this in films... In Return of the Jedi Admiral Akbar is being dead serious about saying they are in a trap... However the scene is now comedic gold "its a trap!" That is sort of how we see the "whare are they " scene in TDK... In TDKR, Bane's voice came out in a rather comedic way as well numerous times. I watch movies to have fun, I don't sit and watch a 3 hour film like TDKR bowing down in Nolan's glory like you guys do.

While I do not believe you should "bow" to Nolan, I also do not agree with your assertion films should only be watched to have fun.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
lol Of course there are serious films to watch but I don't like watching serious films at a theater or with a group of people. In such a setting I rather have a fun time, then be depressed... Also, I would never watch those kinds of very serious films if I am in certain mood. "I want to see Manny's take on Shame and know just how much "fun" he had with it." Lol you mean the recent film "shame"... It was not fun and it had some good points but was largely meh... There are certain films that need to be seen to open your eyes to the world... Watching these kinds of films makes you a bit angry and sad. For example I watched this film called "Come and See" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Come_and_See... Very good film but was quite a traumatic experience watching realizing this actually happened.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
I just didn't enjoy The Dark Knight Rises. It wasn't fun at all, and that's largely what Nolan cannot understand. A superhero movie needs to be fun. It's escapism. Who the fuck wants escapism from a horrible world only to be put back into an even worse world? It defies sense, and made TDKR a bore.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
What's wrong with a dark superhero film though? It adds much more realism than say The Avengers did.

Do you see how idiotic that statement is?
I don't want a realistic-superhero movie.

but you're not stating why it's an idiotic statement and why a realistic, dark approach is bad.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
I did many times.
There's nothing realistic about a guy roaming around dressed as a bat in a BDSM costume and fighting crime.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
Maybe that exact part isn't realistic but the way the material is approached is the closest seen in the genre.

Let me rephrase not as realistic as other parts. People dress up as Batman and fight crime a lot in the news.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
No TDK was dark but in a good way that in the end was very entertaining.
TDKR was dark and but simply tedious.
