I saw this on New Year's Day in 24 fps. It was perfect. Most entertaining film of 2012.

Martin Freeman is so much better than Elijah Wood it's ridiculous.

Yeah in the first half hour I had my doubts. I liked some things but it was also slow going. Then around the time Bilbo wanted to go back to get his handkerchief and Radagast's rabbit was thumping its foot, I started enjoying it a lot more. The last 45 minutes or so were masterful. So much visual imagination at work, like the best aspect of a high quality animated movie.

I'm not the biggest fan of the movie (as evident by my review), but that's actually the only scene done right in tone and spirit of the book. The changes in that scene are actually completely excusable and understandable from the movie point of view. I actually quite liked the fact that Gollum beat goblin with a stone and dragged him in front of Bilbo's eyes for instance for instance.

No. Didn't like that one. Felt weird and uncomfortable. But maybe that was due to fucking 48fps. At the beginning I was mostly puzzled why anyone would think that characters looking like they're on constant fast forward is an improvement over the "old" way.

Yeah, that's 48fps. But the scene itself is pretty much the book on screen.

I noticed that as well, I read that that problem goes away at higher frame rates. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes. 48fps considerably helps ghosting and such. It makes the 3D an easier viewing experience. Anything in close-to-medium-shots looks sped-up compared to 24fps.

From what I've seen cons outweigh pros. Add the fact that the movie mostly looks flat and unimpressive in 3D (what we talked about int he other thread).

I finally got around to seeing The Hobbit and must say that the critics definitely got this one all wrong.

There were some pacing issues, but besides that I enjoyed every bit of the film. 9/10

Indeed,this is a great film. A blockbuster that delivers. Im glad I didnt see it in 48fps. It looked crisp and perfect in fake IMAX 3D.

Fake IMAX is so great that it even makes our wallets look hollow.

Wonderful film, it doesn't try to be Lord of the Rings but it captures the spirit of the book and is an enormously, fun, intelligent adventure. I am baffled by the middling reviews, how can generic trash like Iron Man get 90%+ on RottenTomatoes yet this is rotten (?!) with top critics.

Fuck Rotten Tomatoes and any critic that panned The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It's an amazing film that entertained millions of people.
