 Re: Best Actress 2012
Yeah Libs, because comparing Charlize Theron to Jennifer Lawrence is reasonable. You might as well of just said: "You mean the Academy that time and time again gives the Best Actress Oscar to attractive, high-profile women".
If she doesn't get nominated or win, my reason is just as good as any other. You have no way to disprove it.

 Re: Best Actress 2012
movies35 is correct. Unless the Academy LOVES ZDT, Lawrence is winning.

She is in a better movie than the both frontrunners from last year, though.

 Re: Best Actress 2012
It feels better when a deserving performance is surrounded by a good movie.
That said, c'mon, last year was a little bit stronger, but FAR from strong. It was no 2006 (Helen Mirren/Kate Winslet) or 2007 (Page/Cotillard/Christie).

 Re: Best Actress 2012
I wouldn't be so sure about that. She'd be up there with Davis and Streep.
Personally I thought Streep was great in a very mediocre film, but let's face it - she won because she has lost for more than 10 times in a row before that.

Lawrence is better than Cotillard in her film.

Let alone the fact that The Hunger Games itself was critically acclaimed so the argument makes even less sense. It's not like Lawrence surrounded her work in Silver Linings Playbook by starring in Transformers movies.

But Star Wars has a certain nostalgia and respect behind it - it was revolutionary. The Hunger Games is just yet another adapted franchise that nobody will care about in 10 years time. We'll soon see.

 Re: Best Actress 2012
I'm just glad Helen Mirren didn't get a lazy default nomination, as much as I love her.
This race is still Chastain v. Lawrence, but considering how well SLP performed nominations wise while ZD30 failed to get a Director nomination, I feel like Lawrence may have the edge.

 Re: Best Actress 2012
I think that goes in ZDT's favour. They'll feel pressured into giving it something, and Lawrence will lose out to Chastain.

 Re: Best Actress 2012
I'd love Jennifer Lawrence to get her hopes up and then be utterly floored when they announce the winner: "The Oscar goes to....Jessica Chastain".

 Re: Best Actress 2012
I honestly doubt she would be "floored." She doesn't take her job that seriously and I'm sure is happy to be nominated.
