Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT) - AUS REC
I am also just hoping for that. It needs either a really good hold or very good legs to get past $700m OS. Next weekend should mostly give us the idea of $700m OS if it falls really hard next weekend then maybe it won't make $1b but I am hoping for at least $60m weekend which would already be 44% drop from last weekend.

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT) - AUS REC
From a polish fellow on "the other forum": Quote: The Hobbit established a new record for an opening weekend for 2012 in Poland with 547 047 admissions (130 000 better than previous 2012 record holder BD2) and 892 066 admissions since last Tuesday, when the pre-shows had started. Quote: Can't say for sure, but that would be around 3,8 mln opening for a weekend's result alone. Stunning Why oh why isn't Poland a bigger market...

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT) - AUS REC
That's why Hobbit is doing so well in UK then I'm impressed with Hobbit numbers. I expected 600-700k adm in it's opening week but almost 900k adm is very impressive. That's better opening than any LOTR movie had in admissions That would be around 5.5-6M $. BTW Hobbit also has a new record for number of copies - 385. There are 7 versions available - 3D HFR (subs), 3D ( subs), 3D ( dub), 2D ( subs), 2D ( dub), IMAX 3D ( subs ), IMAX 3D ( dub ). All are digital copies, because biggest cinema chains have all screens with digital projectors.

So it took 8 days to pass 1M admissions in Poland. Right now it looks like FOTR total is the only competition for TH.

Yeah I was thinking of the same but some official estimates would have been nice similar to last week. Gives a good idea how it will do over the weekend.

That's kinda bigger than expected drop in weekdays even though it is after holidays.
Still not bad if it can cross $560m this weekend it will surely get to $650m with holdovers. China might provide the necessary $50m for $1b WW. Also I'm expecting domestic gross closer to $315m.

Half a billion overseas in 3 weeks. Not bad. All it needs is another $200m to make $1b worldwide because $300m domestic is sealed in my opinion.

Yep $300m domestically is happening. It still has a big market to open and Australia has just opened so it should get another $200m from the last weekend's $106.5m gross. A multiplier of 3 it's not that big of an ask IMO.

It could do another $25-$30m here in Oz. If it can get to the upper end of that band then it will pass Avengers for No.1 of the year. Skyfall will be 3rd with TDKR 4th.

I am surprised WB reported Thursday numbers regardless it is looking at a $60m+ weekend with that Thursday IMO, it can easily cross $575m OS this weekend which would seal the deal for $1b WW.

Well that's great, $700M is in the bag. So after all I was right to think $700M overseas was a lock.

It'll be very close between Skyfall and The Hobbit overseas and worldwide. I believe The Hobbit has a 50/50 chance to win worldwide (I see it topping Skyfall domestically), but overseas it's probably going to lose. Who'd have thought?

I think Skyfall pretty much has it in the bag bar some surprises from China. But so far Hobbit did only average in Asia.

We should keep the WW total in the title.
It'll beat Skyfall for WW, but as Lecter said, I think it'll lose in the overseas battle.

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT) - AUS REC
I don't think its WW total will be THAT big in China specially more than Skyfall (which has the advantage of being shot there). I think Skyfall is winning both OS and Worldwide, it should be ending close to $1.1b if not exceeding it. For now I see Hobbit ending with just above $1bm
