 Re: The Astronaut's Wife
I really enjoyed this movie. Haven't seen it in ages though. Not since VHS. I did buy it on DVD but haven't watched my DVD copy, and now that it's on Blu-ray I'd rather see it again in that format . I think I gave it a B+ or A-. Would probably be the former.

The Astronaut's Wife
This was a really hard watch for me. It's worthy of a TV movie label, and not a motion picture for the big screen. Seriously, it's just bland. Everything, even down to the stock music, has "TV movie" written all over it. The story is an interesting one, a concept that could (and should) have been something great, but instead it lacked any truly science-fictional moments. It's as if the crew only had a thin budget to work with so they tried to trick their way into making a science-fiction movie rather than actually making one. It's not as though the movie didn't have its opportunities either - there were plenty of moments where something great could have happened to keep the audience from drifting into a coma. My God, this was boring. I'm a huge fan of movies, especially horrors, that keep the monster hidden from the viewer. I think it's much more scary than the crap like Freddy or Jason, but even that doesn't work here - I know it's not a horror, but they are using the same psychology in keeping the "alien" hidden. They want to keep us in suspense, but it does the opposite, it bores. So instead of showing us anything interesting, like an alien, we're supposed to be content with shock scares, ala Depp sneaking up behind Theron, or the lights going out in a dark hallway etc. So lame, and reeks of bad film-making.
Johnny Depp is so-so, again though, I've still seen no proof of his acting ability. Charlize Theron is better. But Joe Morton gave a better performance here than both of them combined. But still not enough to even suggest being a saviour for this ship wreck. A very, very badly made movie.
