too many attacks to keep up with: to groaning, no, obviously, I'm just saying that as 1 example to chippy, nuh uh. to Argos, I simply meant a film with very intelligent and witty dialogue, I used bad word choice to henrich, who are you?

 Re: Inglourious Basterds (2009)
Delightfully awesome. I'm surprised. It actually had dramatic weight, suspense and used its length well, unlike...any Tarantino film since Pulp Fiction. Oh, and he's gone back to great, deliberate dialogue, too. Nothing that'll be a catchphrase per se, but in the context of the film, it's fantastic.

 Re: Inglourious Basterds (2009)
9/10 -> A-
First I have to say I was left a bit disappointed. Not because the movie is bad - far from it, but because at this point Tarantino is Tarantino. I think this is his first movie that didn't feel special in some way. It's Tarantino through and through. Again, it's not a bad thing, as I think Tarantino is awesome, but at this point we know what Tarantino wants to bring and if he brings it you know it's going to rock. And man, this movie rocks. (This paragraph probably sounds a bit paradoxic, but I'm sure you'll get it.)
It looks beautiful, it's probably the best directed movie in quite some time (so many great shots, scenes, etc.) and if it doesn't pick a few directing awards the universe can kick itself in the as Oscars I'm looking at you - it's time already). It's a bit long at parts, but I don't think I'd cut anything if I was in Tarantino's place as everything feels necessary. The script is great, the characters, while not well rounded at first glance are actually very well rounded. If you're half educated at WWII and cinema at that time you can add that knowledge on these characters and they do take a different dimension - which works quite well with the film being in an alternative dimension for itself.
Have I said this movie is awesome?

I LOVED Mélanie Laurent as Shosanna and *****SPOILERS*****was really sad when she died. *****END SPOILERS*****Anyway, I'm glad this will probably get a Best Picture nomination. It deserves to win, but that's unlikely. I'm also very pleased it was a big hit at the Box Office. This is probably Tarantino's best as far as I'm concerned.

Screenplay? I think so too. And Christopher Waltz off course. That would make me happy enough. Not so fussed about the rest.

 Re: Inglourious Basterds (2009)
The past two times I've watched IB the more I grow to like it. I didn't realize how much subtitling was going on until about the third viewing. I love all the foreign speaking involved. Christopher Waltz is perfection. My favorite scenes are the opening sequence at the dairy farmer's home, the strudel encounter with Shoshanna, and the whole sequence with Diane Kruger in the pub. I liked thinking about what thoughts that german officer was thinking as he stared down the brit and the german spy when he realized for sure that they were phony. Overall, this is a much better movie then what I first gave it credit for.

 Re: Inglourious Basterds (2009)
So, I got to see this last night at a free showing at our Student Union. They upgraded the theater over the winter break, replacing the 4:3 screen with a widescreen, upgrading to surround sound, and instead of the movie being a 4:3 VCR recording from a cable movie channel, the movie was shown on BLURAY! It was my first BluRay viewing, and HOT DAMN, that was amazing! Now I can see why people are so hot for the crispness of the format!
Anyway, Inglourious Basterds was my first Tarantino film. Yes, yes, it is true. And damn, I can understand now why everyone always seems so orgasmic over Tarantino's dialogue. OMFG, he is the KING of dialogue! As a Creative Writing major, I felt like I was in dialogue heaven!
As for the plot, action, etc... Yeah, there were points where the movie slowed a bit, but I was so enamored by the dialogue that I really didn't care.
Being that I was (and really, still am) a newbie to Tarantino, I suppose I wasn't *quite* prepared for the gore that was present in the film. I mean, I've seen gorey stuff before, but... I dunno if it was the realism or what, but damn if those scalpings didn't make me almost physically hurt, and I recall the entire audience gasping and throwing their hands over their eyes at, of all scenes, the very last in which Landa receives his "mark." There was also quite audible and visible reaction to the finger in the bullethole... *shudders*
I suppose, too, as a newbie I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of how much fiction versus fact would be in the film. So for me, the movie was an exercise in exquisite suspense, because I kept expecting at any moment that all the plans would fail and recorded history would take over and there would be no blaze of glory.
But damn if I was wrong and fuck that was such a great payoff! The burning of the cinema, for me, has got to be one of the BEST climaxes of a film.... EVER. Fucking AWESOME.

Grade: A First Tarantino film eh? The dialogue is great in Basterds, but wait till you get a load of Pulp Fiction. Best dialogue ever.

In fact the whole dinner scene in chapter three is pretty good. But yes, despite my love for this film that has grown and grown over the years, chapter three is without a doubt the weakest part of this masterpiece.

I actually think so too. Tarantino will probably never top Pulp Fiction for me but I think I love IB more than Kill Bill now. I want to rewatch all of them before Django, can't freaking wait.
