No, he won't even be nominated. The nominees will be: John Hillcoat Ang Lee Ridley Scott Lana Wachowski, Tom Tykwer and Andy Wachowski Joe Wright

He was snubbed for Best Director nom for Sense and Sensibility, lost Best Director for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon after winning the Golden Globe and DGA and Brokeback Mountain lost BP after having sweeped everything before the ceremony. Now Life of Pi is, above all things, a directorial achievement, so it would be very surprising, but it could happen.
Yeah I'm afraid so. He seems to be on the short end of the stick a lot of times with academy. Look like 7 competing for 5 spots right now with Spielberg/Affleck/Lee/Hooper/Bigelow/Russell/PTA, with Tarantino/Jackson unknown and Haneke as a wild card.

 Re: Best Director 2012
I believe David O. Russell is out, even with Harvey's muscle. I am predicting: Affleck Bigelow Hooper Lee Spielberg If Django Unchained truly catches fire with critics and audiences, I might have to (sadly) cut Ang Lee and replace him with Tarantino. This may be rude, but it blows Hooper has a guaranteed spot.

 Re: Best Director 2012
Yep, Hooper shouldn't have even gotten a spot for The King's Speech, honestly, he was easily the weakest link to that movie.

The last two spots will be between Ang Lee, David O. Russell and Ben Affleck. I see Affleck and Lee making it.

Nah, Affleck's in the Top 3 with Bigelow and Spielberg, with a dogfight for the last two slots.

We haven't heard mch about Django yet, but I am sensing yet another triumph for Tarantino.
Thing about Argo....it was a huge story in October, but now Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty are completely stealing its thunder.

 Re: Best Director 2012
They are, but Affleck should be well-liked enough that he still makes it in. The reviews are still great, it actually made the Top 3 in both Picture and Directing at NYFCC, and actors-turned-directors tend to do really well when they succeed as Affleck has.

I am still predicting him too, but I think Tarantino will overshadow him more.

 Re: Best Director 2012
I believe it will finish in the 70-80 range on Metacritic and be an enormous crowd pleaser/financial hit.

I am predicting:

Tarantino is my first alternate choice, then David O. Russell.

Russell is not getting in over Hooper. No. Fucking. Way. And that is coming from a HUGE fan of SLP.

 Re: Best Director 2012
Dennis Hopper returned from the land of the dead to tell Jean Valjean's story.
I don't believe either Hooper or Russell will be nominated at this point:
Affleck Bigelow Lee Spielberg Tarantino

Could PTA pull a Terrence Malick? Malick got no DGA/BAFTA/BFCA/GG noms last year as well and yet was nominated.

 Re: Best Director 2012
Pretty amazing Ang Lee is the only director who received nominations from DGA, BAFTA, and Oscar this year. Then he also added GG to the list. I think he should win BAFTA given there is no Spielberg there.
