 Re: Star Trek 2 predictions
Ah, Unstoppable was that train movie. Eh, modest hit.
But he is hardly a major star. He's Jack Ryan right? He will be a star in a bit. But I see little reason to predict a drastic increase over the first. I say adjust it for inflation, and add 35% to the opening weekend, and 15% ish to the total.

Oh yeah, that Jack Ryan movie, what an unstoppable train wreck that's going to be.

If it's better than Sum of All fears, it'll most likely be a big hit.

It could be worse than that. Chris Pine isn't the most charismatic actor.

Anything other than MOS in summer 2013 is utter shit for Excel so be prepared to see him downplaying every movie that has potential to cross MOS.

 Re: Star Trek 2 predictions
I've been worried about this being another Iron Man 2, but the announcement teaser already has 2.3 million views after less than 36 hours. Even the Japanese announcement teaser has over 600,000 views. So clearly interest is still there.
I'm pretty certain $300+ million will happen, but dunno still beyond that.

Trailer views are not always accurate.. Transformers 3 has the highest views on youtube for a trailer...

 Re: Star Trek 2 predictions
The teaser is cool, but I'm still not as crazy excited for this as I was with TDKR and TA last year. Don't get me wrong I loved the first one and I'm definitely looking forward to this, but for now I'm setting my expectations low.
As for box office if Skyfall can have a big increase coming off of something like QOS than it shouldn't be hard for Trek 2 to do same considering how much audiences loved the first one, but I still don't think $300M+ is a lock yet. This could still very easily go the way of IM2 if it turns out to dissapoint.

 Re: Star Trek 2 predictions
The biggest problem I see is the competition around it. While Summers do help your daily gross this one is sandwiched between IM3 and Fast 6/Hangover 3 combo. Can't see this one having good legs even with great opening unless the WOM is out of the world.

We could potentially have 3 $100M+ openers that are only a week or two apart plus TH3 which should also do solid business. It's just like 2007 except much stronger IMO just because you have more BIG releases stacked on top of the of the other. Not to mention that supposedly TH3 and Fast 6 are going to open on the same day which is batshit crazy by itself.

The second half is extremely weak. Trek should have opened mid July. This Hangover vs Furious nonsense must end. The comedy should move to late July.

Still not convinced it will pull a Pirates 2/Shrek 2/TF2 performance.

JJ was set on doing Super 8 and had Spielberg backing him up. Who could argue against that power?

At my IMAX they showed the first 10 minutes of the movie and believe me it looks AWESOME in IMAX 3D.

We didn't have IMAX in Singapore back then so I was not able to see the sneak peek.

Loved it! Much better than the announcement teaser. Feeling confident about $425M+ again.

They made this teaser feel like MoS teaser at least the first half. Not very impressive.

Well, they are trying their hardest to make it look un-nerdy, there's barely any space shots, aliens, a lot seems to take place on earth. While i like the trailer, sometimes i wish they would make Trek more like Trek again, you know, exploration, conflicts with other races, stuff like that. Still, $150m is BS, you hear me, BS! $120m / $350m

Based on the nine minute prologue, it's going to be awesome.
