 Re: Star Trek 2 (JUNE 29TH 2012)
Hmm I think IM2's run has taught me alot of what to expect. I think $300M is very possible, but also the MAX amount. If IM2 couldn't break $400M or even $350M then I definitly can't see this doing that much better. Add the fact that they have have waited too long to capitlize on the first movie and a decline from the original wouldn't really be a suprise either. It ain't like the situation with TDKR where there is a bulid up of anticipation and demand for another sequel.

 Re: Star Trek 2 predictions
Benicio Del Toro Turns Down Star Trek SequelQuote: It was just over a month ago that it was reported that J.J. Abrams was keen on casting Benicio Del Toro as an undisclosed villain character in his untitled Star Trek sequel. Today, Vulture reports that those negotiations have fallen apart and that the actor has ultimately turned down the role. The news comes on the heels of word that both Alice Eve and Peter Weller have signed on for (also undisclosed) parts, joining John Cho, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban and Anton Yelchin. Late last Friday, Latino Review reported the rumor that Del Toro would have played Khan Noonien Singh, iconically brought to life by Ricardo Montalbán in the original series episode "Space Seed" and brought back for the 1982 feature film, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Later that night, HitFix received a two word response directly from Abrams regarding the rumor that simply read, "Not true." Now the fan speculation is back on, fueled by Vulture's additional claim that Khan is, indeed, the sequel's villain, suggesting that Abrams' denial may have specifically referred to Del Toro's involvement. At this time, however, there is no official word. Although Montalbán was himself of Latin decent (as is Del Toro), the character of Khan was originally intended to be of Indian ancestry. In the "Star Trek" universe, Khan was a genetically engineered tyrant who seized control of much of the Earth in the 1990's during a conflict known as "The Eugenics Wars." At the conclusion of his reign, Khan escaped the Earth in a starship, the Botany Bay, and was held in suspended animation with his crew until he was found and revived in 2267 by Captain James T. Kirk. As a point of reference, the first Abrams film takes in 2258, though in a diverging timeline. In theory, Khan could have been awakened as far back as 2233 when Nero (Eric Bana) first arrived and, from then on, altered history. All that being said, Khan's appearance in the sequel should still be considered rumor for the time being. What is known is that the film will boast a script from Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof and that it will begin shooting in early 2012, targeting a May 17, 2013 release. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=84867

 Re: Star Trek 2 predictions
well by 2013 or so ST 2009 would be like a 300 million hit.

I like the idea of seeing a different interpretation on Khan. Not sure who can play him, now that Del Toro turned it down.

Khan would be redundant. Klingons would be cool.

Actually, he said that DelToro wasn't Khan which is true since he isn't in the movie. Latino is standing by their source. They think J.J. is pulling the same thing Synder did with Superman.

 Re: Star Trek 2 predictions
I just don't see a big increase over the first one. I loved the first one, but I don't think there are a lot of new fans to increase the opening weekend. The new one will also have more competition around it. Iron Man 3 third weekend will be stronger than Wolverine's second weekend. Then over Memorial Day weekend, I think Fast 6 and Hangover 3 trump Terminator Salvation.

 Re: Star Trek 2 predictions
I'm thinking $150m opening will happen. I've seen the argument that Star Trek is too nerdy for that kind of expansion, but I think that's total BS. The last one is greatly beloved by almost everyone except the out of touch weirdos that think Roddenberry knew what was best for the series.
It's kind of a shame they didn't go for a July release date, though, since May already has two $100+m openers.

He was also in People Like Us, which kinda bombed. Quinto had Margin Call, which was quite good, though not a box office hit. It had a nice run for a movie never getting more than 199 theaters though.
