Labelling an update as such; "weekend numbers", and on a fucking Wednesday, is not my idea of an update. It ludicrous.

Nobody labeled them weekend numbers. Not even Nikki's headline did. But whatever. If the Wednesday numbers are accurate we have a good idea of how the week/weekend is going to play out. If you don't like it then don't read them and wait for the actual numbers.

rolling thunders numbers are even better! Look forward to see how the grosses pan out over five days. Incredibly good box office for everything bar Guardians. Even then it will probably have solid legs through o early January so it will be fine. I guess most audiences thought the animation looked shitty too. Bodes well for Hobbit.

Especially good for Lincoln and Skyfall. There's so much quality choice for film lovers at the moment. Shame July to Sept was the opposite.

If these numbers hold, Skyfall just locked up a $280 million total with a 50/50 chance at $300 million.

Excellent for Skyfall, Lincoln. Great for Breaking Dawn Part 2, Life of Pi, and Red Dawn (but will be frontloaded). ROTG underperformed but it has good WOM (84% Flixster users recommending it) so it should pass $100M DOM and Life of Pi has a chance.

If we based on past Thanksgiving openings, it would mark the first time that 5 movies went over $20M in 8 years.

Great numbers for everything not named ROTG. Although it did always look like the weakest animated movie coming out this year. I still had hope for it to be big because of the appealng premise, but there have been so many animated breakouts this year that there was bound to be atleast one to dissapoint.

Also, it looks like having Thor and Peeta in the same movie helped out Red Dawn quite a bit. It it wasn't for them it definitely would have done ALOT worse.

Yeah this looks like it's going to be a very strong Thanksgiving frame despite the underperformance of Rise of the Guardians.

I mean, look at Lincoln! I think it's time to end the $100M talk and start throwing out $150M.

I don't feel Life of Pi did that much better than Rise of the Guardians. Kind of disappointing as well, actually, considering its pricetag. Very solid numbers for everything else, though.

Well, that's true, but the general vibe I got from here was that it did well, when both are fairly meh. RotG's PTA is slightly higher and I imagine its prospects for the holidays (and not just Thanksgiving) are stronger given its theme, so I feel like it's unfair to single it out.

Expectations for Pi were much lower. It will surpass a lot of them. And if it has great legs it could do 100 Million in the US.

Nikki's estimates for Wednesday were fairly accurate. ;)

Silver Linings did terrific!

Life of Pi is a film which should, in my opinion, be considered apart from its budget. Similar to Hugo last year, it represents a studio giving a celebrated director a large budget to create a piece of art in good faith (and in hopes of prestigious Oscar nominations). Rise of the Guardians is a much more immediate product.

Agree with David on Pi. Spot On.

I think its a huge success, especially if WOM is good. I guess the question is - how much of the book's fanbase came out to see it OW and therefore how much of that frontloadedness will cancel out good WOM and awards buzz.

Its a great shot for $100m though.
