Obviously not immediately, but I guess it makes sense that they would see some "Marvel-verse" potential here

They must know there's a fairly new invention for just such an idea of multiple Star Wars stories in a year: it's called television.

Yeah, but a live action TV series has been talked about for a while and never came to fruition.

Budgets would be smaller of course, but I'm not sure what they hope to aim by releasing anything Star Wars-related that often in a year.

Two or three each year sounds ridiculous unless maybe they are planning on putting out animated films to go along with a live action film unreleated to each other of course. I could see that, but more than 2 a year would be overkill and you can't have say SW7 with another live action something And an animated film. That's just too much.

I doubt thats true. Seems like a misquote.

I think it should be more like - SW 7 to 9 with 2 year intervals.

In that 5 year period, we may see two stand-alone SW side films (ie. Fett movie and/or somehing else).

Then after the trilogy is done, its one film a year (sometimes 2) with differen stories told in the SW universe.

That article misunderstood Kathleen Kennedy's plan to release 2-3 Lucasfilm projects as a plan to release 2-3 Star Wars films. That's not what she said

I am shocked and very happy. I thought he was the perfect choice, although not sure where it leaves the Star Trek films.

In Abrams I (kinda) trust. His emphasis on characters (maybe Cloverfield withstanding) could be the counteragent toward Lucas' prequel trilogy of apathy.

Trek and Star Wars fans to unite, and they say the world didn't end last December.

This is kind of crazy news. A solid choice.

This is crazy, though. He can't possibly stay with te Star Trek franchise after the second film then, hm?

I suppose Disney offered him complete creative freedom and probably an amazing backend deal.

I still doubt he'll be the most influential person on the film. Kennedy And Lucas will still have final approval. Hell if they get the original cast back, I'm sure they will have says as well.

I hate these movies, but J.J. Abrams is one of my favorite people in the industry. I'll obviously see it - I just wish that he would have done something else.

I prefer his Star Trek to any SW film.

As good a mainstream/big blockbuster director you can get today.

I find it strange he will direct Star Trek and Star Wars. Similar to, say, Christopher Nolan deciding to direct The Amazing Spider-Man 2 or Peter Jackson rebooting Narnia.

I am not complaining. He is a sound choice. It just feels unusual.

Nooooooooooooooooo!

Abrams is not the most overrated director in Hollywood, but he's damn close - - RIP Star Wars.

(My pick would have been Andrew Stanton after his fine work on the analogously epic duo of the fantasy John Carter and the sci-fi WALL·E.)
