Wreck it Ralph vs Rise of the Guardians (INTL)
Both of these are coming out in November domestically but there OS runs will be different.
Rise of the Guardians will come out of the gate is almost all of the big markets and will try to build the WOM before holiday season kicks off. During holidays it should hold well after which it shouldn't have much left in the tank anyways.
Wreck it Ralph is rolling out as far as January in few markets. It has strong WOM and the direct likability to attract family crowds.
Among the two I am thinking Ralph will do better in OS but just marginally.

Guardians will easily do better. DW movies just earn more money OS than Disney/Pixar ones these days.

Wreck-It Ralph is more commercial than that other thing.

Re: Wreck it Ralph vs Rise of the Guardians (INTL)
Wreck-It Ralph. It will attract more than just the family crowd and it has better release dates than Rise of the Guardians. They are more spread out (some open in February/March) while Guardians will open just a few weeks before The Hobbit. The Christmas holidays will also feature 1 big animated release in a lot of territories, which will steal away some of Guardians's audience.

Re: Wreck it Ralph vs Rise of the Guardians (INTL)
China opens for Wreck-It Ralph tomorrow (Tues 6th). I was thinking it will be big, but to open on a Tuesday for a kids movie is not great, so its opening week will not be that huge. Plus, my local cinema chain is MCL, and my local doesn't have it. That's weird, they usually get all of the crap. Hopefully that's not indicative of other cinema chains here.

Re: Wreck it Ralph vs Rise of the Guardians (INTL)
Looks like it Ralph did not do as well as expected. Quote: Domestic hit Wreck-It Ralph grossed $11.2 million from 18 markets this weekend, which represents 17 percent of its foreign potential. The Disney Animation movie is now at $26.3 million Some of the big markets are already included. I expected it to do $400m OS, but that's not going to happen at this pace.

Yeah, Guardians has both the advantage of being DreamWorks, and I think having a more marketable premise to international audiences - though Santa/Tooth Fairy/Easter Rabbit aren't big figures, I don't think video game characters are much bigger.

Santa is bigger everywhere if marketed well.

Looks like both the movies are doing softer than expected.

Re: Wreck it Ralph vs Rise of the Guardians (INTL)
I did expect a little more about $50m for these many countries, still not too bad but it will need to rely on good legs from here on to recoup its budget. Domestically it is not going to make much more than $100m so it needs about $250m-$300m OS to earn some money back for the studios.

Re: Wreck it Ralph vs Rise of the Guardians (INTL)
Unless Guardians pick up again in OS markets during holidays Ralph should easily get this.
I am still surprised how lower Guardians ended up both domestically as well as OS.

Ralph has quite a few markets to open yet so it should handily win this.

You know, Rise of the Guardians almost saved some face overseas. At least it'll finish with more than $300 million worldwide.
