Yeah, it'd be monstrous. But Mockingjay, Pt. 2 comes out that week. And that shit's gonna make like a trillion dollars.

When it comes to the domestic Market...
SW is king...
The Original films and even the new films were all huge hits in the domestic market.
No doubt TA2, Avatar 2 and Sw7 will be the biggest films in the next few years.

My God -- the internet will explode if the teaser poster is a bearded Luke with lightsaber. It'd be every bit as iconic as young Anakin with the Vader shadow.

I can just imagine the makeup job Hamill would need to to even look presentable for the film.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
One would wonder if the Jedi are a focal, you could still have Yoda, ObiWan, and Anakin in spirit form. It's actually quite exciting thinking about a legit future story. The Prequel always had hinderance, and too many uninteresting characters thanks to the lack of personalities the Jedi have.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Yes this will be big but people are forgetting that 10 years is a big span a lot of people grow old of the movies and not every generation cares as much for Star wars when there are new polished movies like Avengers, Batman and Avatar. Now I am not saying that this will do bad but it will have to build itself up (not from the scratch of course). They have to make it look REALLY good for this to work.
For now I see $160m/$450m
But this could easily go down below $400m and end up with ROTS's $380m

For now I see $160m/$450m That would still be a good result. I think the franchise has potential to attract an even larger audience. The original fans from the 70s/80s plus the younger fans of the prequels. Even if the older generation didnt like the prequels - they'll still go and see the sequels. Especially if the quality is there.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
I want to offer a different perspective (instead of inflation adjusted) for the domestic market:
SW1 (Ep4) became the biggest movie of all-time SW2 (Ep5) became the 3rd biggest movie of all-time SW3 (Ep6) became the 4th biggest movie of all-time SW4 (Ep1) became the 3rd biggest movie of all-time SW5 (Ep2) became the 11th biggest movie of all-time SW6 (Ep3) became the 7th biggest movie of all-time
See a pattern here?
Worst ranked movie is SW5 at No. 11 which today is held by LION KING with $423m - Who knows how much No. 11 is worth in 2015...

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
So that pattern is that it will do 300 minimum and that's without 3D without IMAX and without the higher prices.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
ok, being serious. The buzz preceding Episode 7 will not come close to Episode 1. Much smaller gap, and aura of the series was seriously damanged by the prequels. Still huge, but the 90s generation is about half as into star wars as the 70s and 80$.

Eagle will just keep this going just because as long as the internet remains. That's my thought.

In 2015 dollars, and with 3D boost, that number will probably be close to $900 million. So even with half the interest of TPM that would be $450 million in the bank. And it's going to have well more than half the buzz of TPM. Disney will sure as hell guarantee that. And I voted for $700-750 million BTW.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Some of these inflation comparisons are hilarious. Just because Star Wars was huge back in 80s and 90s doesn't mean it is guaranteed to do big numbers.
Let's look at two of the biggest movies of the franchise Ofcourse this is not a fair comparison because the re-release of the original was quite huge. Regardless original trilogy made huge numbers back then even with just the first release.
Unadjusted TPM (1999) - $474m Star Wars (1977) - $460m
And let's look at these numbers adjusted which is what most of the people claim will help these movies Star Wars (1977) - $1.428b TPM (1999) - $724m That is decline of half the audience from the original.
Overall adjusted numbers give EP4 - $1.428b EP5 - $787m EP6 - $754m EP1 - $724m EP2 - $428m EP3 - $475m
It is clear that the first of the original was the biggest of all and even though these movies are big they have lost a big chunk of its audience. There was a decline of almost half the audience from original trilogy to prequels and they were highly anticipated. I am not saying that these movies will not be anticipated before the release date but no one exactly asked for these sequels.
These movies will make big numbers but as of now I will stay conservative unless they look something different and fresh. There are too many versions/spin-offs of space wars in the market now and to distinguish itself will be that many times difficult. If it proves to be different I can see it making $500m and there is also a slight chance for $600m.
As of now $450m-$500m seems to be a good target though there is HUGE potential.

Re: Star Wars - Episode VII - Predictions
Anything between $450m-$650m could happen. I'd say $450-$550m is a good bet.
I do recall many people expecting TPM to beat Titanic back in 98/99, but that was before the prequels came out and disappointed die hard fans. Obviously it was over predicted. Ep 7 will probably be overpredicted too but matching Titanic unadjusted wouldn't be as big an ask as it would have been for Ep 1.

Episode 1 should have opened on Friday. It would have cruised over its $105M 5day in 3 days.
