It opens against Trouble with the Curve (likely moved if poster/trailer doesn't show up), Dredd (despite positive buzz, it will likely flop as it faces strong competition with another film I'm about to mention), End of Watch (very good marketing, could possibly beat #1 that weekend over Street).
The popularity of Jennifer Lawrence from The Hunger Games could bring in females and horror fans that weekend. I see an opening with $18-20 million and possibly finishing in the $40 million + range.
What do you all think?

It looks really, really generic, and I've never seen the trailer get much of a response. 12/25.

Re: House at the End of the Street (9/21) Predictions
Lawrence will help, and it has been heavily pushed, but there is a certain generic quality as Shape pointed out. There are no memorable images or scares in the advertising. It's almost as if they're trying to disguise a vanilla, mid-tempo teen suspense movie as a balls-to-the-wall scary horror film.

None of Twilight cast was able to help bring big crowds over their stand alone movies. I think this looks too generic to be helped by Lawrence who outside of THG hasn't been known for attracting crowds.
I'd say $13m/$26m

Water for Elephants did well, though I s'pose people give the credit to Reese.

Re: House at the End of the Street (9/21) Predictions
WFE was from a known published material. I think both Resse and Robert helped it not just Robert plus it opened $16.8m not a huge opening IMO.
Re: House at the End of the Street (9/21) Predictions
I like JL, but I see Abduction numbers for this. The trailer tries way too hard to be scary when it's actually not very scary at all. It also looks pretty damn generic.

$15M opening. The film itself looks minor and generic but I think Lawrence is well on her way to "bankable" status.

Not sure how it'll do... but that trailer where everything goes backwards is pretty darn awful.

Hmm, to those in the US...is Jennifer Lawrence strongly featured as a marketing point? Because this could be her first test as a draw.
I'm thinking:
Opening Weekend - $21 million
Total Gross - $52 million

Yes. The TV spots even emphasize that she is "The Hunger Games' Jennifer Lawrence."

Re: House at the End of the Street (9/21) Predictions
I actually think it should have no issue being the #1 film next weekend, unless Trouble with the Curve really surprises. It should open up with at least $22 million, IMO.

Yeah, I think it has great Box Office potential. The ads are very slick and I know a lot of people who really want to see it. The biggest selling point will be Lawrence but the movie actually seems appealing. Teens will for sure be interested.

This has a Last House on the Left remake vibe to me. Minus the rape scene, of course.

That was a hard "R" with no big star, and Lawrence is hot right now. Cannot imagine this opening below Swimfan adjusted and it should open quite a bit higher.
