A fun, entertaining, fast-paced action with a killer of an ending.
8/10 (B+)

Quite fun to watch but tough to follow, as the complex story doesn't really fit with the flashy visuals and big gun fights. That said, I figured out the twist quite early - it was pretty clearly telegraphed - and I knew what was going on most of the time, even though I didn't catch all of the dialogue. The very last scene was quite good but didn't fit within the context of the film - it was far too smart. The entire movie is shooting and swearing, and then there's a glimmer of character development set to some catchy music at the end. I liked it, but it felt off. Everything leading up to that was loads of big, dumb fun that's not actually that dumb. Among the stellar cast, Ryan Reynolds and Jeremy Piven stood out, but the entire ensemble was actually quite impressive. No real weak spots. A shallow action flick that tries to be something more, and only succeeds about halfway.

ending sucked, saw it comin about 20 minutes into the film. Acting was solid. Reynolds showed he could show emotion so thats cool. The action was top notch but for being world class assassins they were pretty stupid.

Just watched this movie, and I am shocked.
I did not think, that at the beginning of June, this would end up being my favorite movie of the year so far. Lots of fun, great action, just plain cool. My biggest qualm is that dumb fucking kid. Ugh, I hate him.
But still, I was genuinly surprised by this film...

 Re: Smokin' Aces
What a load of crap. Takes forever to get into the action and the movie.. Basically it's an entire film about travelling to get a person, and it takes the whole film for anything to happen. Then there's a little shootout and it's over, with Ryan Reynolds doing a bit of overacting (which I didn't think he was capable of) before the close. Waste of my time.

 Re: Smokin' Aces
Caught this on Netflix and was surprised at the amount of known cast this had. The movie had a lot of potential but its unnecessarily complicated and takes forever to setup the story and get to the hotel. The overall fights fail to live up to the expectations. There are couple of good action scenes but nothing memorable and the "twist" in the end was again uselessly complicated. Its style over substance movie with some good known casting and decent acting.
