HOLY CRAP EVERYBODY CHILL THE FUCK OUT

No, this won't win the year. No, this won't pass TDK's total. And no, $500 million looks like a long shot right now. But jeezum crow, guys, this is still on track for at least a $400 million total, making Batman the first franchise to have two movie make over $400 million in a single run. That's pretty darn impressive.

It's weird, back when everyone went crazy with their TDKR predictions after Avengers broke out, I compared it to predictions of Attack of the Clones increasing when Spider-Man broke out. It now looks like we are indeed in for a similar performance between the two now, and much like how ATOC was viewed by some as the first $300 million disappointment, it seems like everyone's decided that this will be the first $400 million disappointment.

This is still the second biggest non-holiday Monday, guys. It could have held better, yeah, but it's still a massive blockbuster. Come on. We can't have everything.

Considering the negative propaganda against the film right now and the fact that the studio can't even run ads for it, $400m would be a good result. No film in history has had to deal with this kind of bullshit in the media. And it wasn't just opening weekend, that crap was still going strong yesterday and I assume it'll continue going strong as long as the killer is on trial and victims are suing Warner Brothers.

I know, the doomsday talk and people acting like the film has bombed or something are kind of outrageous.

I'm sorry not every detail of box office life is "that shit cray" or whatever, but life happens. No one saw Aurora coming, and you have to deal accordingly.

Indeed the film is a special case and I am terribly disappointed in seeing this happen to such a great movie. In the history books many might not remember this happen but they will remember that TDKR only matched TDK OW which is not fair IMO.

In the history books, the film's box office will be completely overshadowed by the tragedy. Rightfully so, although I think it's a shame that the killer is getting what he wanted most of all: his 15 minutes of fame.

Umm, no. Don't overreact. WOM on the film is still great and it's the last really big blockbuster of the summer, hell, until November. As time passes people will catch up with it, and I'm sure it will get repeat viewings. It's not like the film isn't a monster success, and even if people don't see it theatrically they will see it at some point I'm sure.

Get shot by a maniac.

Sue studio behind film playing in cinema...

Only in America.

Don't wonder why your country's so screwed up. Proof enough. Might as well sue Dolby Digital for enabling the movie's gunfire sounds. Or sue England for allowing Chris Nolan to grow up and become a film director.

As I said, WB does not need to donate any money at all to the victims, let alone be the subject of a lawsuit.

Gun lobbyists still run amok and the weapons dealers are all smiles. If ever there was a country obsessed with war...but having had the balls to kill a President and his brother, well, what else would you expect.

The "only in America!" disdainful rhetoric that comes out of incidents like this is always such a great time.

Don't think we could really compare this Monday with TDK's Monday, which, quite honestly, is probably the most impressive Monday ever, at least to me, especially following that Sunday. By comparison, TDKR's trajectory is more in line with a regular blockbuster sequel, and that's not really a surprise.

Justify why Warner Brothers deserve to be the subject of a lawsuit.

Should the publishers of textbooks at Virginia Tech have been sued when Cho shot 30 people?

You are Americans. You have votes. Instead of the continuous complaining and idiotic rash reactions trying to target the symptoms, target the bloody root.

Guns continue to fly out of the radar, whilst Warner Bros, Gangster Squad, the movie industry, excited people in costumes, midnight showings and etc are blamed and shamed.

Fucking priorities on straight.

It might have a decent multiplier, like 2.8-2.9, maybe even 3.0.... But it's clear that its legs won't be close to TDK's.

On a more positive note, Inception had harder Sunday and Monday drops, yet a much better 2nd weekend hold.

Of course I don't think that. But there's no reason to be so vitriolic and militant about your anti-American rantings.

I mean, every post you wrote is kind of vitriolic and militant but at least it was just limited to movies before.

^ I'm not actually that anti-American. I understand that no country is perfect but there are countries whose citizens cannot really exercise their rights without being killed ie Syria, China etc. Here, you have the power to determine this country. Sure the lobbies are strong, but if you as a people, and arguably the most developed country in the world, are so complacent and ignorant and willing to accept the incredulous "attempts" at tackling your problems, then why complain at all.

I mean, you have the power to "rise to arms" yet everyone just seems to shrug off responsibility.

Also, I think you should stop being so aggressively negative towards me, granted I make many negative posts but when I do make positive and logical posts, I don't deserve the same treatment you always dish out.

Full Monday numbers

Strong holds as a whole by most of the movies. All the wide releases had drops of 55% or better from Sunday, and the week-to-week holds are already better than the weekend for the most part. Brave in particular is finally developing some legs, it seems.

Yeah love those Bale pics. Great stuff. Interesting to see WB distance themselves from the visit though.

Guys, let's see how the film performs next weekend - that is the big test. Its still up for $450m+ but I wouldnt rule out $500m yet.

No, this won't win the year. No, this won't pass TDK's total. And no, $500 million looks like a long shot right now. This is spot on.

Take a look at even the KJ 2012 predictions at the start of this year. Look at the average TDKR predictions and they are well below what the more recent ones were.

No doubt the film has been impacted by the weekends events, but I dont think it will be all that disappointing in the end.

I was sure someone would go visit them. What I like is that he tried to be low key and keep it a surprise. Bale clearly doesn't care about garnering any good public relations stuff from this; the only reason he went was to see the victims. BTW terrible number. i hope this recovers soon because it is my fave of the Nolan series.

But, if it doesn't recover....maybe they will just have to make another.
