It would be a hugely popular performance among fans and general moviegoers in the vein of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine or Johnny Depp in the first Pirates of the Caribbean film, but it wouldn't have won an Oscar.

yeah he would likley would have broke out like those guys. Another great example is RDJ as Iron Man...

"The shot with the Batman statue at the end was awesome."

Yeah that was great...

Well done there.

The Good:
-THE ENDING
-Catwoman trapping Batman with Bane
-Batman's voice wasn't as ridiculous, though we still got treated to one "WHERE ISSHH HE"
-Lt. Dangle as the doctor
-Joseph Gordon Levitt's character
-Bane's takeover of the city
-It being a hybrid of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight
-Scarecrow as the judge
-Talia's reveal (I was completely shocked)

The Bad:
-Bane's voice-over work sounds like he's in a completely different scene
-Why didn't Bruce take off the rope in the pit once getting up to the ledge? Seems like that was the thing pulling them down every time.
-Not enough Alfred

Overall, I was very surprised how much I loved the movie. I was expecting a big letdown after the greatness of The Dark Knight.

A

The thing that makes the Catwoman trapping Batman with Bane scene great, is that the lead up makes Batman so badass, and then it's just BOOM. As soon as that cage closes, you know shit is about to go down. And I loved the shots of Catwoman during the fight. Chilling.

I said the same thing. Why couldn't he make a grappling hook of some kind with the rope. I mean he can fix autopilot in 2 days but can't get out of a pit with a good supply of rope.

Post Re: The Dark Knight Rises
Just got back, haven't read everyone's posts here, so I'm sure some of my comments have already been made by others:

(SPOILERS):

Very much enjoyed it, but I'm not sure I liked it better than Dark Knight -- mostly because I loved the Joker character.

This felt more like a sequel to the first, as if you could remove the middle film completely.

At first I thought the ending might be Alfred's dream but then thought -- Did Alfred ever see Selina? Then why would he imagine her there?

Then again, wasn't Wayne broke? Ah, I guess he had that money in the Cayman Islands no one knows about.

The idea that there was a political view in this film eluded me, and I'm a political junkie. Even if it was some sort of anti-rich guy thing, I don't think very many in the 99% think the solution is armed revolution and the release of all prisoners to turn a city into anarchy...

The surprise twist with Talia got me completely, and I don't read the comics...

Hathaway was wonderful. Her character wasn't one-dimensional, quite sexy, and believable in the context of the film.

Bane's voice didn't sound natural; it always sounded like it had been dubbed in afterwards. Oh I know most of the dialogue is dubbed in afterwards, but Bane's sounded like it.

OK more comments later maybe; going to bed now.

"When the rules of the structures of society become shackles, letting the bad guys get ahead".
"People want to repeal the dent/PATRIOT act under my watch. not happening"

The film was referencing how some times, in order to combat the bad guys who do not pay the rules, you have to join them in breaking the rules. I.e Guantanamo bay, the patriot act, etc

On one hand you can say it demonizes the Occupy movement based on Bane's actions; on the other, you can say that all sense of infrastructure and safety falls apart without government.

I don't think the film's picking sides at anything.

I think it is pretty conservative. It basically makes Bane & the whole communist thing looks absurd. Even though it clearly digs at capitalisms most favorite thing - the stock market - at the beginning. "flipped a coin" "mines in my mattress".

"There's no money to steal here."
"Really? Then why are you people here?"

Nolan's just making a movie. The politics are just those of A Tale of Two Cities -- any major uprising will inevitably end up being as bad or worse than the government it overtook.

Lol that was such a great responsr, bane had great lines, as did catwoman.

The actors deserve credit but wow are they given good material.

Yes, and that is true for Ledger's Joker too. People kept saying how awesome he was. But last time I checked, Ledger did not write the screenplay, he did not decide that the Joker should wear make-up, he did not create the bone-chilling Joker music that builds intensity. Ledger is of course the main reason why the Joker was such a great character, but he's far from being the only reason. If his lines were stupid as fuck, nobody would think Ledger's performance was amazing.

Nolan appears to be a realist and think in times of crisis, the most important thing to do is act...

Christopher Nolan is saying people who try to exist outside a mainstream capitalist construct need to be destroyed.

Alex Jones told me so.

And later, Dagget tells Bane that he paid him and Bane says, "you think that gives you power over me?"

The line right before that where Bane says "do you feel like you're in charge?" was terrifying.

Yeah, that was what tipped me off immediately that Alfred wasn't "dreaming" at the end there. Alfred only knows of her as a jewel thief from the very beginning of the movie when Bruce talks about her...he leaves the mansion before most of the stuff involving her goes down later in the movie. So he'd have no reason to imagine her there.

Alfred knows what she looks like. Bruce pulls up her info. on the computer. But still, there's no reason to imagine her there.

The ending is real, end of story. ;) It's just so obvious. It doesn't lend itself to Taxi Driver/Blade Runner/Inception style which-way-is-up debate.

I believe it picks sides subliminally after examining both viewpoints.

"This was somebody's house"
"Now it's everyone's house... There's a storm coming, this is what you wanted right?"

I think Nolan basically says how the "99%" is right in the sense of listing what problems exist out there but they couldn't be more wrong about the solution.

I don't think the plot would be what it was if he wasn't an idealist to some extent...
