Re: THE DARK KNIGHT Rises (INTL.)
Awareness doesn't equal a bought ticket. People will take away that a crazy person shot a bunch of people in a theater. TDKR just happened to be the movie they were watching.

Re: THE DARK KNIGHT Rises (INTL.)
It could actually boost its total IMO cause some might be interested what in the movie inspired the shooter.....not saying it WILL happen but there is a better chance of it happening than not.

Re: THE DARK KNIGHT Rises (INTL.)
I read on a local forum that the cast won't be coming to the premiere in Tokyo and "other" countries due to the events this weekend in Colorado. No source was given, and "other" may refer to Paris, so I don't know how reliable this comment is yet.

Re: THE DARK KNIGHT Rises (INTL.)
Yeah, I read that too.
Fuck Warner and their admission of guilt. Why not just post a statement on their official website "Warner Bros. is very sorry to report that our movie inspired a massacre"? Because they are doing everything in their power to pretty much imply that.
This could have happened during ANY OTHER FUCKING movie. Or at any other place.

^yeah but unfortunately it happened at midnight showing of TDKR in Aurora, CO. There are specific details that need to be considered. I think the movie industry has reacted well to the shooting.

Re: THE DARK KNIGHT Rises (INTL.)
Neither the studio nor Rentrak are officially reporting worldwide grosses for the weekend out of respect for the victims, but sources with access to numbers say Christopher Nolan's final Batman pic earned at least $70 million-plus from nine of the 17 countries where it debuted over the weekend. Official number are expected to be released on Monday. The biggest market for Dark Knight Rises was the U.K., where the film grossed at least $16.1 million through Saturday, with another $6 million in box office likely on Sunday. Australia came up with a weekend tally of $15.2 million, while South Korea looks to generate $15 million. Spain is estimated to come up with another $4 million, with Hong Kong contributing $3 million. Dark Knight Rises opens in Germany, France and Japan this coming week. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/f ... ing-352836

The thing happened in US and I am sure WB has its resources out in those countries and they surely would be having a regional head.

Re: THE DARK KNIGHT Rises (INTL.)
Three times what TDK opened to in South Korea, 50% more in Hong Kong.
On par with TDK's opening in Spain, and looks to have roughly the same USD opening as TDK in the UK, but I imagine TDKR's opening will be higher in GBP since wasn't the exchange rate pretty much at its most favorable rate ever in 2008?

Re: THE DARK KNIGHT Rises (INTL.)
I would not rule out the shooting affecting international box office...I'm in Peru right now and the shooting is HUGE news, everyone is talking about it, it was the front page story in every newspaper and I've heard many say that they won't go to see Batman despite that sort of thing NEVER happening here (or parents who don't want their kids to go). People can get paranoid very easily.
