I really need to see this again, but there is absolutely no way that I will liken it as much as TDK. Ledger is a main reason, but also the journey of Harvey Dent/Two Face. IMO, Eckhart deliverd a performance also worthy of an Oscar nod. Hell, even Gyllenhaal as the love interest was good.

If I look at this:

And honestly, there is not a single scene in TDKR that is on par with these

Eckhart's the reason TDK is as great as it is. He's the heart of the film.

I'm going to need another viewing to properly rank it among the series, but it's incredible fo sho.

A few notes (all spoilers):

- Bane was excellent. I've always questioned the choice to make Bane the villain in this film because I knew it was a conclusion to Nolan's trilogy and wanted someone more epic (plus I consider him to be a B-level villain compared to some others). But boy, Bane is menacing in this. He's just terrifying. And I think it's so appropriate that he's such a challenge to Batman, physically and mentally. Performance-wise, of course it's hard to top Heath Ledger's Joker, but Hardy deserves a lot of props here. And purely comparing the villains of the two films, Joker is the better, more psychotic villain but, like someone said already, it never felt like he was going to defeat Batman. Bane overpowered Batman in their first fight in the sewers (awesome scene, btw) and they truly had an epic fight at the end. They're both excellent in different ways.

- Anne Hathaway killed it. I'm not a fan of hers at all, but she was great in this (and actually looked hot, something I usually don't say about her). And it's interesting how Nolan went with the Catwoman character.

- I read a long time back that Marion Cotillard was going to be Talia, but I completely forgot. Thankfully, because the twist was excellent. Although I agree with The Dark Shape that the relationship between Miranda and Bruce needed to be built up some more for a more emotional punch. But still, loved it.

- The way Nolan wrapped up this trilogy was perfect. Couldn't have been more satisfied. I liked the tease with Robin, what happened with Bruce/Selina, everything. He created THE most epic and perfect conclusion. Kinda makes me wanna... :tears: .

A+

Does not compute. Anne Hathaway is one of the most gorgeous women on the planet. She's stunning. (And so is Marion Cotillard.)

Spoiler: show
The way Robin is brought in at the end is just done so well. If Nolan was going to bring him in, this was the only way I feel he would have done it. Some big fans may complain that they didn't refer to him as Dick Grayson but Robin's transition from cop to vigilante is just excellent. Also, the last shot with Bruce and Alfred is the right note to end on and quite sentimental.

Nolan is a master at ending a movie. Seriously. So fucking epic.

Yeah, the ending to this film is aces. As much as people worry about how dark it is for audiences, it's a total crowd pleaser.

It was absolutely stunning. I think the biggest winner here is Nolan. He has crafted a masterpiece. Solid ensemble without a standout performance like ledger but everyone aced their roles. This was easily the best I have seen from Bale. Last 30 minutes were out of the world and as everyone says is a total crowd pleaser. I think it will have great legs. I cannot wait to see it now.

To me after 1st view TDKR>>TDK>>>BB. Even my missus want to see it again.

Completely agree. You could feel the bated breaths as the screen faded to black, and the second that title card popped up...the crowd went completely nutso.

Anyway, I completely disagree that this was the least fun Batman movie. As flawed as it, this was the most fun I've had watching a movie in many, many years. Maybe ever. All the action sequences, the mass destruction of Gotham, the whole final half hour just completely took my imagination and excited me in a manner that made me feel like a little kid playing Batman in my backyard. Just, like, with more muddled politics (Which I think have been really overrated in their profoundness - Nolan does not seem like a political person at all).

I really can't wait to see it again, especially in IMAX.

Amazing movie. Probably the best of the trilogy, I'm gonna have to see it again to be sure. But it's at least as good as BB and TDK. I'd give it a A- or A (I'd give BB and TDK a A-).

I really liked a few things:
Spoiler: show
-Seeing Bane cry at the end (though the way he died was disappointing)
-Bruce climbing out of the well
-The ending. Wow. Phenomenal. I really thought Batman died.
-Zimmer's score

I saw the French-translated version of the film, so I didn't get the actors' real voices. But in the translation, Bane is very easy to understand. I'll go see it in English soon.

Bane is a character less interesting than the Joker, but he's quite interesting nonetheless. He makes the Joker and his silly actions look like child's play.

It suffers from a bit of flab around the edges and the whole storming the Bastille, Robespierre's court business just clunked. Beyond that zero complaints satisfying end to the trilogy.

Oh and Bane is a walking reason to hit the weights in the gym even harder, such colossal back muscles.

Yeah, no one can do endings as well as Nolan, seriously.

My favorite is still the joker card as the end of Begins. That was just....WOW. Amazing set-up.

Bane and Talia are both better than any villian in any Marvel film (haven't seen CA), despite the minor material Talia is granted, Contillard makes her great.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

I just wish the relationship between Miranda and Bruce had been given more weight to justify the emotional aspect of it.

Totally agreed, it's effective and gripping, even though I've known it for months Nolan kept me waiting long enough for very minor doubts to creep up and that's about all that could be asked for when it was obvious from the start who she would have to be if Contillard was in this.

Depends on how you define Marvel. If by Marvel you mean the recent batch of Avenger-related films - yes. Not a difficult feat either.

If you also include X-Men...no. Magneto is still the best comic book villain on screen (the younger and the older incarnations) aside from the Joker.

The bit at the end where Fox asked about the autopilot and was told Bruce had fixed it kinda sits wrong with me. Not saying it didn't add to the emotional gut punches, I was already watery eyed at that point but it kinda contradicted the whole thing in the hole where Bruce was told you needed to fear death to truly reach your potential. Going from that to Bruce having a needless death wish fulfilled...... I dunno they clashed for me.
