The opposite here. I wasn't going to see it, but so many bad reviews have me saying : Give that damn film your hard earned money.
Same thing happened when Baby Geniuses 2 and Barney's Great Adventure were released.

This scares me a bit.

A keen knowledge of the events of the past films is required, but Nolan skilfully weaves the strands together in spectacular fashion so that the final result leaves you gripped to the seat long after the film has finished.
- Adam Bub, MovieFIX

I hope remembering the events in The Dark Knight will suffice because I barely remember Batman Begins, certainly not any details, and I don't want to sit through that again. Unfortunately it apparently does indeed have a lot to do with Begins. I hope casual fans will be able to enjoy this too.

These days even being a shallow film buff requires some effort. Quo vadis, Hollywood?

I hear what's key to remember is how many seconds into Batman Begins Rade Serbedzija appears. If you count in minutes, Bane's plot won't come into full focus.

Post Re: The Dark Knight Rises Review Watch
The most important review is in: http://hollywood-elsewhere.com/2012/07/ ... e_disc.php

"TDKR is tight, tight, tight, tight. It breathes and moves and doesn't feel turgid but God, it's like it began as a four-hour movie and somehow Nolan whittled it down to 165 minutes. I can't imagine how Nolan could tell the story he's chosen and cram it all into a two-hour running time. It flew right the hell by, I can tell you that. (I was furious that I was forced to hit the head at the 75-minute mark.)"

"I didn't like The Avengers to begin with (I called it "corporate piss in a gleaming silver bucket"), but that movie is dog excrement compared to The Dark Knight Rises. Joss Whedon is a good guy now because of his ComicCon rant about the U.S. turning into Tsarist Russia, but don't even mention his directorial skills alongside Nolan's. Nolan knows, Nolan is a madman, Nolan delivers and will kick your ass around the block with this film. He and his co-writing brother Jonathan and co-story guy David Goyer...all in the weaving and the tight, tight, tight, tight, tight construction."

I think hearing Jeffrey Wells say "tight, tight, tight, tight, tight" repeatedly killed my sex drive forever.

Surely it's not as tight as 2002's "The Ring".

I think reviewers are being harsh on TDKR.

It may be a great film but because it does not match up to TDK, they may give it a bad review.

Post Re: The Dark Knight Rises Review Watch
"The second half - is something of a slog.

A central weakness of "Dark Knight Rises," when compared to the other films is the absence of a compelling, complicated villain. Bane has a one-note personality, without humor or nuance. Even worse, with his voice distorted by that mask, he sounds like Scooby Doo.

Moments are stretched. Every recollection must be illustrated by a flashback. Character motivations shift on a dime, and if you understand even half of what's going on - not generally, but specifically - you'll be doing better than most. For long stretches, there's little that's compelling and no point of story to resolve or hold our interest beyond a vague concern for the fate of Gotham City. After two hours, this concern fades."

Bradley Witherberry isn't looking for anything logical. He just wants to watch World of KJ burn.

I think some of them have too high of expectations. Still, the reviews have been very good to great so far.

Eh, not much of a "defense." He says in the article Batman has passionate fans.

I'm sure he, too, would be repulsed by many of the specific (often violent or cruel or vicious) comments were he presented with them directly.

He seems a civilized type. A man who can read a mixed review of one of his films without angrily calling the female critic a bitch.
