 Re: INTL Weekend (April 13-15)
By my rough calculation, Titanic's total passed $2 billion, and is at $2033.619 m.
With potentially another $200 m overseas and $25 m domestically, it could be at $2258.6 m ish by the end of its run.

"Thanks to its humongous opening in China, Titanic 3D proved the foreign theatrical circuit’s unsinkable No. 1 box office champ on the weekend, grossing $88.2 million from 9,889 venues in 69 overseas territories covering more than 100 countries.
The debut tally in China – $58 million drawn from 3,500 sites – accounted for the lion’s share of the total weekend take, and is distributor 20th Century Fo’sx biggest opening gross in the market ever. Fox said the retrofitted film’s six-day China bow is 32% more than the total market gross (a then record $44 million) of the original Titanic in China in 1998.
Titanic 3D, now in its second round of foreign release, also chalked up solid numbers in Russia ($2.75 million at 972 sites for a market cume of $10 million) and in Europe. A No. 2 second weekend in the U.K. drew $2.9 million from 508 locations for a cume of $12.8 million. Italy contributed $2.7 million at 389 sites for a cume of 8.4 million while France provided $2.6 million from 362 spots for a cume of $7.9 million. Germany came in with $2.2 million from 497 locations for a market cume of $7.4 million.
IMAX said the six-day China premier accounts for $6 million on 64 IMAX screens, for a nearly $94,000 per-site average. The film has grossed $13.6 million from IMAX sites globally over 12 days.
The foreign gross total for Titanic 3D stands at $146.4 million over two rounds – which, when combined with the original’s overseas run, puts the offshore total tally at $1.4 billion. (Foreign box office record is held by director James Cameron’s 2009’s blockbuster Avatar, which grossed $2.031 billion.) Worldwide, Titanic has pushed past the $2 billion mark.
Opening at just about half the total Titanic 3D playdates was Universal’s Battleship, director Peter Berg’s sci-fi/action title based on a Hasbro naval combat game about sea warfare with an alien armada. Debut weekend take from 26 offshore markets came to $58 million collected from 4,950 situations. The film ranks No. 2 on the weekend.
Costarring Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker and Liam Neeson, Battleship took the No. 1 spot in 20 territories, setting Universal opening records in Korea ($8 million from 250 sites), Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. A first place finish in the U.K. provided $6.1 million from 496 situations while the No. 1 Germany finish provided $5 million from 632 situations.
Taking into account various sporting and cultural events plus the competitive calendar, Universal decided to debut Battleship overseas a month before its May 18 opening in the U.S. and Canada. The film has 38 territories yet to play including Russia and China this week and Latin American in May.
Also opening on the foreign circuit on the weekend was Lionsgate’s The Cabin In The Woods , directed by Drew Goddard and written by Joss Whedon. Playing at some 800 situations in four markets, the horror title grossed an estimated $3.4 million on the weekend with a No. 3 bow in the U.K. providing $2.5 million at 412 screens.
Third on the weekend was Warner Bros.’ Wrath of the Titans, the foreign circuit’s box office champ for the prior two weekends. This time the 3D action fantasy costarring Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes grossed $16 million from some 9,000 screens in 63 markets. Overseas cume stands at $188 million with a Japan opening on tap this week.
No. 4 was Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games, which pushed its foreign gross total to $194 million – as opposed to its much larger $337 million domestic take -- thanks to a $15 million weekend playing at 5,200 sites in 67 territories.
Fifth on the weekend was Universal’s American Pie: Reunion, which is handily out-grossing overseas all previous titles in the American Pie comedy franchise. Weekend take was $11.8 million from 2,641 sites in 34 territories for a foreign gross cume of $40.8 million. Openings in Brazil, Chile and Colombia are due this week.
Universal’s 3D animation title, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, elevated its foreign gross total to $74.3 million – with playdates in 16 key markets still to be digested – after a $8.6 million weekend at 3,753 situations in 51 territories.
Sony Animation/Aardman’s family-oriented animation title in 3D, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, opened in Venezuela and held nicely in the U.K. (No. 4 with $2.5 million drawn from 8990 sites for a market cume of $20.7 million). Weekend overall delivered $8.4 million from 4,200 venues in 34 markets. Overseas cume stands at $44.4 million.
Holdling tightly to France’s No. 1 position was Pathe’s Houba! Sur la piste du marsupilami (Houba! On The Trail Of The Marsupilami), which collected an estimated $8.2 million in its second round at 805 screens, down just 15% from its No. 1 market opening. France cume for the live/action/animation adventure created by Alain Chabet comes to $21.8 million.
Sony’s 21 Jump Street, a feature version of the old tv series, connected with $4 million on the weekend at 1,130 screens in 19 territories, lifting its foreign cume to $34 million. Fox International’s The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, costarring Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, hoisted its foreign cume to $60.9 million after a $3.8 million weekend at 1,456 screens in 26 markets. The film’s domestic bow is due May 4.
Other international cumes: Disney’s John Carter, $200.6 million (the second 2012 release to cross $200 million offshore); Warner’s Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, $220 million; DreamWorks Animation/Paramount’s Puss In Boots, $404 million; Fox’s Chronicle, $57.6 million; Hugo, $77.2 million from Paramount-handled territories only; Star Wars: Episode 1 in 3D, $59.8 million; Paramount’s The Devil Inside, $47.8 million; and Fox’s This Means War, $88.8 million."http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/f ... hip-312282___________________________________________________________________________

Re: Intl. Box-Office: John Carter hits $200 million overseas
I think Battleship will be huge overseas.
Looking at 300+ million easily and a gross well over 400-500 if the Asians markets overperform like TF3.

"A generally somnolent spring weekend on the foreign theatrical circuit was sparked by No. 1 box office of Universal’s Battleship, which grossed $58.4 million from 9,038 playdates in 50 territories for an overseas cume over two rounds of $129.6 million.
But box office challenges lie ahead for Battleship given its hefty production price tag – well north of $200 million.
Universal said the film has 14 more foreign territories to open including Israel on May 3, South Africa on May 4, and Latin American on May 10. An exec at another studio, speaking on background, notes that the while debuts in the largest foreign territories are already behind Battleship, the foreign gross total stands at less than $130 million.
Universal decided to open the film overseas month before its May 18 opening in the U.S. and Canada, taking into account various sporting and cultural events plus the competitive calendar. Thus, the film’s domestic gross action will take on added importance given the strong – but not spectacular – foreign results so far.
Director Peter Berg’s sci-fi/action title based on a Hasbro naval combat game about sea warfare with an alien armada, opened on the weekend No. 1 in 16 territories on the weekend with its Russia bow providing $10.7 million at 810 sites, a 76% market share slice. A No. 2 premier in China provided an estimated $17 million from 2,287 situations, the biggest market opening ever for a Universal title.
Costarring Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker and Liam Neeson, Battleship won the No. 1 spot in the Ukraine ($1 million at 111 spots) and, in its second weekend, finished first in the U.K., Germany, Austria, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
Opening No. 1 in Italy via Medusa Film was To Rome, With Love, director Woody Allen’s latest title costarring himself with Roberto Benigni, Penelope Cruz, Alec Baldwin, Judy Davis andJesse Eisenberg. Opening round at some 495 screens drew an estimated $4 million. A June opening is slated for the U.S. and Canada.
Warner Bros. opened The Lucky One on the foreign circuit in nine markets for an debut tally of $3.8 million from 545 sites for a per-screen average of nearly $7,000. The romantic melodrama based on a Nicholas Sparks novel and costarring Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling premiered No. 1 in Australia via Roadshow, eliciting $2.5 million from 242 sites. Openings in Italy and Germany loom this week.
Making a No. 2 debut in the U.K. was Lionsgate/BBC Film’s coproduction, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, director Lasse Hallstrom’s comedy-drama costarring Ewan McGregor. Opener at some 415 locations provided an estimated $1.8 million.
No matter what the calendar tells us, the summer season on the foreign theatrical circuit kicks off next week with the opening of Avengers, Disney’s $220- million Marvel Comics tentpole costarring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Samuel Jackson Jr. and Scarlett Johansson. Openings in 40 markets, which Disney describes as about 70% of the international marketplace, begin in France, Italy, Australia, Taiwan, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Russia on May 3.
Summer playdates come none too soon since first quarter overseas box office for the six American major studios was flat overall compared with their comparable collective take in 2011’s first three months, $2.934 billion versus $2.950 billion. (Calendar year 2011 foreign box office for the major studios rose 7% from 2010, notching a record $13.5 million.)
Warner Bros., which finished fourth in first quarter 2011 takings, came out on top for the January-through-March period this year, grossing $732 million, up 45% thanks largely to offshore returns for Sherlock Homes: A Games of Shadows ($254 million) and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island ($214 million).
Second was 20th Century Fox, which finished No. 1 in the last year but took a 4% drop in this year’s first quarter, grossing $605.4 million offshore. Third was Paramount, the fifth-place finisher last year, which this time registered $572.1 million, up 4%. Paramount’s big foreign earners for the period were Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, DreamWorks Animation’s Puss In Boots and Hugo.
Disney reported first quarter foreign box office of $425 million, off 0.3% from last year while the No. 5 finisher, Sony, came in with $369.9 million, down 30% from the year ago period when it had The Tourist, Green Hornet and Battle: Los Angles in foreign release. Universal, on the other hand, registered $202.1 million, up 31% from first quarter 2011 with several solid titles led by Safe House ($72.6 million) in release.
In second place on the weekend was 20th Century Fox’s re-release, Titanic 3D, which dropped 65% from its prior weekend, grossing 34.3 million at 9,327 situations in 79 markets. China again provided the bulk of the action with $24 million derived from 3,500 sites for a market cume of $105 million. Overall cume for the re-release stands at $225.7 million.
Third was Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games, which lifted its overseas gross total to $215.8 million thanks to a $13 million weekend at 4,400 screens. The film has played in 71 territories, the latest newcomer being Spain where the opening tally was an estimated $4.1 million.
Universal’s American Pie: Reunion is No. 4 with $9.5 million registered on the weekend at 2,942 situations in 37 territories. The franchise comedy sequel opened No. 1 in Brazil with $2.2 million drawn from 227 playdates. Overseas cume stands at $56 million. Fifth was Warner’s Wrath of the Titans, which pushed its overseas total gross past the $200 million mark ($201 million) after an $8 million weekend playing in 62 markets.
Sony Animation’s co-production, Pirates! Band of Misfits, which opens Friday (April 27) in the U.S. and Canada, hoisted its foreign gross total to $55.9 million thanks to a $7.8 million weekend at 4,580 venues in 46 markets.
No. 1 in France for the third straight round is Pathe’s release of the live action/animation adventure created by Alain Chabet, Houba! Sur la piste du Marsupilami, which collected another $6.1 million on the weekend from 750 sites, raising its market cume to $29.8 million.
Universal’s 3D animation title, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, elevated its foreign gross total to $83.3 million after a $5.1 million weekend collected from 3,298 venues in 49 markets. Lionsgate’s horror title, The Cabin in the Woods, drew $3.3 million from 750 screens in nine territories for an $8.6 million total, while Sony’s 21 Jump Street, the feature version of the vintage tv series, drew $3.1 million from 1,220 situations in 23 markets, lifting its foreign gross total to $39.5 million.
Other international cumes: Fox’s The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, $66 million (after a $2.9 million weekend at 1,404 sites in 29 markets); Universal’s Marley, $300,000 from 64 sites in U.K. opener); Warner’s Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, $221 million; DreamWorks Animation/Paramount’s Puss In Boots, $404.5 million; Fox’s Chronicle, $59.4 million; Hugo, $77.6 million in Paramount territories only; Fox’s This Means War, $91.5 million; Paramount’s The Devil Inside, $48 million; and Fox’s We Bought A Zoo, $35 million."SOURCE

Re: Intl. Box-Office: The Avengers blasts past $400m oversea
I think Universal didn't want to handle three major releases (AP4, Battleship, Lorax) at the same time...

38% 2nd weekend drop in Australia. Bodes well for a (sub) 50% drop in NA.

Dr. Seuss just lacks international appeal. Horton made the most with $142,608,575, while both Grinch and Cat did horribly.

Not that bad - I mean, it's unknown property, and not exactly super-appealing at first sight. Danny De Vito dubbed it in Russian, lots of extra publicity, and Lorax came only $5 m ahead of Despicable Me to $16 m total. It still has the big ones ahead - UK, Germany, France, Italy, Japan. Horton did $142 m. Should do about the same in admissions. Grinch did only $85 m OS, Cat in the Hat $33 m.

Amazing should over 560-580 million by Next Sunday and I think I fail to take into account CHina...

TA was definitely saw less than 50% with the holdover markets. It was $185m last weekend (though I don't believe $185m was for weekend alone), this weekend China and Russia combined gave $35m and then there were few new markets like Singapore, Thailand where it opened after last weekend so giving it about $45m from new markets it would still have $106m from holdovers which would come around 46% drop from holdovers.

China just opened, so I think we will see close to $600m by next weekend.

Let me say this and let it soak in:
The Avengers is a lock for $1.4+ billion worldwide.

Well I still say $1.35b seems to be lock but I wouldn't go with $1.4b yet. Interestingly Quote: To boot, Avengers already has surpassed the lifetime totals of Captain America: The First Avenger ($364 million), Thor ($449 million), Iron Man ($585 million) and Iron Man 2 ($624 million).
