 MacGruber 2 in the works?
http://collider.com/macgruber-2-sequel- ... ne/167804/This is indeed one of the best SNL movies. It was hilarious and so underrated. I hate the MacGruber skit on SNL. It's terribly unfunny. But this movie is the opposite. This is a sequel I wanted but never would have thought could happen. Even if they write a script though I wonder if it would end up getting made. I sure hope so. They should definitely get Wiig back if they can. She's much bigger than she was when the first came out. Please let this happen!

Re: MacGruber 2 in the works?
I will allow my own post from May 2010 to speak for itself: Bradley Witherberry wrote: I caught MacGruber for 3rd time tonite and upon thoughtful reflection I can now safely say that it is a newborn comedy masterpiece. I'm not joking. Better yet - - it is only the set-up. It is the first in a series of films. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the dawn of the MacGruber franchise. Our children will look back on this weekend decades from now and wish they could have been blessed to see it in first-run with a lively audience. Perhaps to better understand it from the perspective of this early stage in it's gestation, one might see it as an honest (though filthier) descendant of it's genre ancestor Austin Powers. A spoof of old spy genre pics set in the "60's" by an SNL alumnus. A spoof of old action genre pics set in the "80's" by an SNL alumnus. Do you hear an echo? The first Austin Powers movie received a similarly chilly reception at the BO way back in 1997 with an opening weekend of only $9,548,111, and ending it's run at $53,883,989. (Though the multiplier shows the strong WOM among it's devoted early adopters with small drops as it rode through it's Spring run.) MacGruber will follow that same pattern. Unremarkable theatrical run followed by boffo DVD sales leading to a sequel that grosses 4X as much as the original, and a third even more successful entry. The modern masses require time to digest comedy. They will have to listen to the lines many times to grasp the idiotic brilliance of MacGruber - - but once they do, they will demand more MacGruber and more MacGruber. Sequels are easy to sell when you've been pre- MacGruber-ized. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend setting aside time this coming Friday or Saturday night to go see MacGruber with some crude comedy loving friends - - be sure to pick a busy showtime and experience the thrill of enjoying a belly laugh comedy film with a convulsing audience. Don't believe me? Read the reviews of your fellow KJer's above. This is a glorious moment in film history - - All hail MacGruber (and Vicki St. Elmo)!

Re: MacGruber 2 in the works?
Sadly I really doubt this would happen. Not unless they can make a sequel for maybe 5 Million. I doubt Universal would want to release one either. I mean a worldwide gross of 9.3 Million is pathetic. It did 4.6 Million in DVD sales. It's very unfortunate it flopped so badly but since it did it's unlikely this will see the light of day. They can write another but that doesn't mean anyone would greenlight it.

Still more than doubled its budget with WW rentals, tv rights, and WW sales.
That being said, the first was good because it should have been awful but wasn't a train wreck. Fuck this and bring on Waynes World 3 instead

Maybe it broke even when all is considered. Sure budget was just 10 Million but that doesn't include advertising.

Which was was mostly paid for completely by back end deals for SNL and Unviersal and product placement. Theres a shit load in that film. At least 20 different items, at 2-5 million each, marketing is always paid for in advance. Honestly I don't see why this isn't common knowledge. Product placement info had been around for almost 7 years now. If I had to make an educated guess I'd say Macgruber was in the green by at least 15 million. And the comparison to Austin Powers is awful Austin Powers had great reviews, made 6 times its budget just in theaters, and was from what memory serves the 2nd biggest selling video of late 90s after The Matrix. And absolutely no relation to SNL.

Re: MacGruber 2 in the works?
via Ain't It Cool News: Quote: Cue rejoicing. "We are going to make MacGruber 2 for sure." - Will ForteAhoy, squirts! Quint here. You might think I'm being ironic with my headline, but you're fucking wrong. I love MacGruber and only sit back and smile as year by year it grows in status to be the widely loved cult comedy it is. I was on record early and even got a quote on the poster that for once I don't cringe when seeing.I proudly display my love of this film! When Will Forte was interviewed by EW recently they asked about a possible sequel. His exact quote was: Quote: “We are going to make MacGruber 2 for sure. (If) we have to do it with a video camera in our backyards – there will be some form of MacGruber 2.” That's not exactly "We have the money and we're going to make the Godfather 2 of SNL movies," but I'll take it. Whatever indicates a MacGruber 2 is on the minds of those involved is better than nothing. Just sign up Shia LaBeouf to reprise his role as MacGruber's gay son and you've got instant box office... well, maybe not gold, but box office precious metal of some sort. Where was I going with this? I just want another MacGruber movie. Hollywood people do whatever you need to do to make that happen. Please and thank you.

Re: MacGruber 2 in the works?
This might as well have been fast-tracked as soon as Bridesmaids was a hit. The biggest "problem" with the original is that the two biggest leads were Will Forte and Val Kilmer.
The new movie should be about how after MacGruber and Elmo got married, both became this famous duo in the spy world, but Elmo gets most of the attention and fame because she's the competent one, with MacGruber becoming increasingly jealous. That way it can actually somewhat mirror real life considering where Forte and Wiig's careers have wound up after the film.
No matter what they do, if it actually gets made, I'll be there.

What makes you think, Wiig would actually do the film? Why not? She worked for years on SNL with everyone who made it. I'm guessing she had fun making the movie. I don't see why she wouldn't come back, unless she's killed off in a similar fashion as Maya Rudolph's character was, and at that point they might as well make the film DTV unless they get a substantial name in there to replace her.
