With IA4 opening on Monday and SM opening on Tuesday there's less pressure on the weekend though...

I have no doubt that IA4 will have a 1m+ weekend (regardless of the weather)...

Ahh, 2001 was by far the most interesting year for German box-office ever sinceI started following it in 1999.

No wonder it is the biggest year since 1969 and admissions have declined by 27 % since 2001... :(

OhI didn't know about the opening days, I thought they were all Thursday releases.

With a Monday opening, I am not even that sure about IA4 getting 1,000,000 over the weekend, might barely miss it.

What has changed since 2001? The home video market?

Nowadays (exceptions like Intouchables aside), hits have become very predictable. You rarely get some random movie making over 2,000,000 admissions in Germany.

I mean looking back at films that have had over 2 million admissions here like the following:

She's All That
The Pricness Diaries
Cruel Intentions
40 Days and 40 Nights
Anatomie
Message in a Bottle
...

I mean no way any of these films would get 2,000,000+ admissions now.

They don't want to waste any school holidays right after the EC...

I think there are three main reasons:

- 2001 was also the top of the multiplex building boom - moviegoing was something fresh and a somewhat new experience in many cities
- piracy - successful male straight action movies are a dying breed (just compare M:I 1 & 2 vs. 3 & 4
- kids nowadays spend more money on their cellphones than in movie theaters

Hehe, the cell phones thing might be a big one actually.

I think the male action films might be coming back a bit. Fast Five was the peak of the series. Though we won't see the times of these films getting to over 4 million admissions again.

Avengers in total admissions:

1.34m AVENGERS (11 days - 2nd weekend estimate based on Thursday sales)
1.12m THOR
1.01m IM2
0.82m IM1
0.60m HULK
0.34m CAPTAIN AMERICA
0.25m INCREDIBLE HULK

http://www.insidekino.com/SP/SPOTH/SPMarvel.htm

2m admissions is a lock, 2.5m likely, 3m possible...

Yeah, 3 million isn't happening (EC and Man in Black 3 will hurt it big time). But sitll a terrific performance.

American Reunion should also hit 2.5 million with ease now, right?

It looks like for the third week in a row American Reunion won in admissions and The Avengers won in gross. Dark Shadows opened at #3.

Post Re: Germany Box-Office Thread: MIB3 & SWATH - close race for
Men in Black 3 and Snow White and the Huntsman are both looking at around 300,000 admissions this weekend, according to mark. The box-office is recovering after a disastrous week as sunny weather killed the movies last weekend.

LOL, the Miley Cyrus film that was dumped by Lionsgate in the US, actually looks to open in the German Top 10 this weekend.

American Reunion is now officially the 2nd-biggest film of the year with a bit over 2.3 million admissions - only behind The Intouchables now (which is a monster at 8.25 million and counting). Should finish well north of 2.5 million.

So many people have TDKR posters I am not sure who is whom anymore. Riggs your previous Cotillard photo was great (it was you only right or was it someone else with her photo :P ).

Germany is probably the only country where you have to pay licensing fees for the charts...

Dr. Lecter, howcome Rocky has no admissions total on insidekino.de?

It surely got released there, and it was probably big enough to register a good admissions total. I know that Rocky's are not as big as Rambo movies in Germany, but still, why no total?
