Men in Black 3 Under 100m Spaceship
Gonna tank. Since 2007 all Memorial openers have disappointed to some degree. Most have all been unwanted sequels. Guess what MIB3 is? Also this brings up memories of Mummy 3 and Rush Hour 3, movies that came so far after their last entries and disappointed majorly. Will Smith hasn't had a movie since, what, 2008? And then, no one even remembers Seven Pounds- I even saw it.

Men in Black 3 actually looks funny though (for the most part). Will Smith absence = $$$

Re: Men in Black 3 Under 100m Spaceship
One could argue his starpower has diminished since.
Watching the trailer, he seems like he's lost a bit of his charisma. Oh, it's a new decade too, not that that means much, but most stars have lived in a certain decade only to combust in another.

Re: Men in Black 3 Under 100m Spaceship
? He had one of his biggest 5 movies ever last time with Hancock. It wasn't even a role audiences normally go crazy for him in too, since the Hancock character was supposed to be disliked.
Seven Pounds did $70 million. If Men in Black 3 fails to make $100 million, that'd be a bigger surprise to me than Hunger Games making $400+ million.

Re: Men in Black 3 Under 100m Spaceship
I forgot that movie existed! It was pretty terrible.
It's not about Will Smith. It's a stale sequel and audiences have shown they are not afraid to reject them.
The whole thing looks drab and tired and despite what people think, Battleship looks like it's going to be tough competition and then once we head into June it'll be massacred.

Re: Men in Black 3 Under 100m Spaceship
Honestly, honestly, I do want to join. It just looks SO bad. The trailer is so bland. But it's Memorial Day weekend, it's the only major opener, and it's Will Smith. Independently, these things aren't guaranteed reasons for success, but together, it has to be. But, I definitely do not see $200m+.

Re: Men in Black 3 Under 100m Spaceship
I saw Seven Pounds.
Anyway, this movie will reach 100m. Will Smith is another one of the those actors who actually adds to box office potential. Plus, I have found the trailers interesting.

Re: Men in Black 3 Under 100m Spaceship
Seven Pounds was a dark movie that came out around xmas time with bad reviews and still made 70 million thanks to Smith. This past weekend the kids choice awards was the highest rated showing ever on Nick thanks Will Smith. Lets not forget that The Karate Kid was a huge hit two year ago because of Will Smith power. Men In Black 3 will be huge. Even boxoffice.com has it open close to 90 million opening weekend. People love the smiths and MIB 3 looks good.

Re: Men in Black 3 Under 100m Spaceship
I still can't see $87m opening for MIB3 even when it is the only movie opening over Memorial Day Weekend. If it does above $70m OW then I guess $200m wouldn't be a big problem.

I'd possibly join an under $150M "club" (barely), but certainly not this one.

You forgot to mention Little Fockers as a threequel that came well after its predecessor.

I know people who've seen it and it's apparently very funny.

Re: Men in Black 3 Under 100m Spaceship
For the reasons Magnus stated, it's too difficult for this to happen and the only way it could is if WoM is as bad as Mummy 3 AND Battleship breaks out to 225m+.

Re: Men in Black 3 Under 100m Spaceship
I get the feeling the OW will underwhelm (say like T4) but unlike that film the legs will be good. Its lucky it opens unopposed though.
Still see $150m+
