 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
Asia does not like re-releases. If you looked at past re-releases for The Lion King, Toy Story 1 & 2, even major Asian territories like South Korea are well below normal grossing standards. It is typically Europe/Latin America/South America that carries the bulk of the OS gross.

If a Phantom Menace 3D release can make $30 million in its first weekend despite being one of the most widely reviled movies in recent times, I can only imagine how this will do...

Yeah, if The Vow can open to $35M or more, I think it's certainly possible Titanic 3D could push a $40M opening.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
TPM is not the most disliked film ever.
It was very well liked by kids and families.
Nonetheless Titanic will explode.

BoxOffice updated its long range forecast and this time it includes TITANIC: They expect a $42m opening weekend and $155m total... Quote: Activity levels on Titanic's official Facebook page indicate that interest is high--on most days the pages adds more likes than The Dark Knight Rises, The Twilight Saga and The Hunger Games combined. http://www.boxoffice.com/featured_stori ... ght-of-day

People will tend to like something they have seen. Not sure that's true about Twilight though. It's still adding many fans.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
Roger Ebert has written an essay called Ship of Fools discussing the movie Titanic and it's upcoming re-release. I don't particularly agree with his analysis of the movie, but he is spot on in his comments about it's 3D defacement: Quote: "Now for the final flaw. It is, of course, the 3D process. Cameron has justly been praised for being one of the few directors to use 3D usefully, in "Avatar." But "Titanic" was not shot for 3D, and just as you cannot gild a pig, you cannot make 2D into 3D. What you can do, and he tries to do it well, is find certain scenes that you can present as having planes of focus in foreground, middle and distance. So what? Did you miss any dimensions the first time you saw "Titanic?" No matter how long Cameron took to do it, no matter how much he spent, this is retrofitted 2D. Case closed.
But not quite. There's more to it than that. 3D causes a noticeable loss in the brightness coming from the screen. Some say as much as 20 percent. If you saw an ordinary film dimmed that much, you might complain to the management. Here you're supposed to be grateful you had the opportunity to pay a surcharge for this defacement. If you're alert to it, you'll notice that many shots and sequences in this version are not in 3D at all, but remain in 2D. If you take off your glasses, they'll pop off the screen with dramatically improved brightness. I know why the film is in 3D. It's to justify the extra charge. That's a shabby way to treat a masterpiece."

It's a masterpiece, so says Ebert. You seem to follow what critics say, don't you?

I can't see how this can gross less than 50 million 5-day. I'm predicting something around 60 right now.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
There might be quite a few that might be seeing it for the first time on big screen 3D or not and that is what I believe would be the key to success for this movie. The movie is surely made for the big screen.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
The Titanic re-release is playing on almost 40 screens in my market - - but every stinkin' one is 3D - - couldn't they set aside one proper 2D screen for true movie lovers?

Before even seeing the movie and conversion in 3D if you are commenting then I hardly see the point of calling yourself "true" movie lover.
