Re: Early Friday Number on The Hunger Games
The $20m doesn't mean just for matinee shows; believe it referred to the amount it has sold for today, many of which could be tickets for night shows.

Re: Early Friday Number on The Hunger Games
Amazing, but this is reason number 1,530 why I wish tracking and advanced sales statistics didn't exist.
Imagine if we were in a 2006 like environment (with modern day prices mind you). We'd be expecting 90 or 100 mil as the upside? 110? Then it comes out 70 mil OD and 160 mil weekend on Saturday morning? Would've been a classic BO moment...
Ah the good old days...

Yeah, we got similar numbers for Potter ($24.2m in total sales by mid-day) and TDK ($12.5m). From that point onwards, DH2 made $23.5m and TDK made $36m

Re: Early Friday Number on The Hunger Games
Anything over 52m for Friday means this has a smaller midnight-to-Friday gross ratio.

Re: Early Friday Number on The Hunger Games
Wanted to point out a day total of 71 million would break the record set by Spiderman 3 on its opening Saturday for the largest Day business on record.

Re: Early Friday Number on The Hunger Games
I'm seeing a ridiculous number of sellouts for this already, more so than I've seen for any film in recent memory. I wouldn't be entirely shocked to see day business soar above $50m. Hoping for $60m.

Re: Early Friday Number on The Hunger Games
60 would be Spiderman 3 Saturday adjusted ^^^^^
I think if it gets 71 million and ties Spiderman 3 old record, it would be one the most the most impressive box office feats since DH2 opening day.

I just realized that this will beat The Matrix Reloaded to become the highest grossing movie set on future Earth. Not too shabby.

Re: Early Friday Number on The Hunger Games
So the estimates for Friday are anywhere from 55 million to 80 million.
lol...
I think anything over 65 million will be solid...

Will be solid? Most people on this Board in January predicted that THG OW would be around $20M

Re: Early Friday Number on The Hunger Games
FRIDAY 3:15 PM, 3RD UPDATE: My movie studio sources are telling me that the Friday opening box office for Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games is ranging from a low of $60M to a high of $75M today from 4,137 North American theaters. That number includes the record-setting $19.75M midnight grosses. For the 3-day weekend overall domestic number, my insiders are predicting a low of $135M to a high near $150M. Meanwhile Lionsgate sources are telling me that the hotly anticipated pic did a matinee per-screen average of $7,878.

Re: Early Friday Number on The Hunger Games
We'll just have to wait another 6 hours or more for any real estimate. I recall Deathly Hallows 2's Opening Day updates ranging from $80, $90, and over $100 million.

Re: Early Friday Number on The Hunger Games
I don't understand what that per screen average is supposed to mean... If that's the average gross for matinees in all theaters, it's already at $32.6m.

Re: Early Friday Number on The Hunger Games
Yes but all signs point to 60 being the floor based on the performance so far.
Remember Corpse, The hunger games is going to have to work really hard to get a 60-70 million opening day as it got a midnight lower then the HP and twilight films.
"I don't understand what that per screen average is supposed to mean... If that's the average gross for matinees in all theaters, it's already at $32.6m."
The film was not on 10,000 screens in the day...

If we would talk about screens then it would be past HP7.2 OD just after matinees

The film was not on 10,000 screens in the day... We're assuming she meant theaters. 4100x7878=32.6M. Heck, even 3000x7878=23.6M. I think her PTA figure is wrong

Re: Early Friday Number on The Hunger Games
That PTA number was directly from LionsGate, so I would believe that this is correct number.
