Post Mirror Mirror Predictions
I don't think I've seen a thread for this yet. I've heard positive buzz about Mirror Mirror

Quote:
The rosy outlook is also affecting the films debuting the weekend after "Hunger Games"; "Wrath of the Titans" and "Mirror, Mirror." Both films appeal to different demographics, but are each polling around a $35 million opening. And, most likely, they'll be fighting for a distant second place to another huge "Hunger Games" gross in its second week.

http://www.hitfix.com/articles/box-offi ... el-opening

Opening; $25,000,000
Total: $80,000,000

It does have a chance of the highest grosser for Relativity and possibly Robert's first $100 million grosser in a lead role in 12 years. Either way, Relativity will likely have a success for this based on the strong tracking.

I can't see a year where two Snow White films both make over $100 million. I'll be really impressed if Mirror, Mirror makes over $70 million.

Post Re: Mirror Mirror Predictions
I don't know. I've always been down on the movie's box office prospects. I know being the first of the two Snow White movies out of the gate helps, but it didn't strike me as a major player. Snow White is almost a nonentity in the advertising, which completely focuses on Julia Roberts mugging as the Evil Queen. And the humor seems geared towards very young children rather a diverse family crowd.

Until we are closer to the release date and it's absolutely clear this is going to realize the high early tracking numbers, I'm going to continue to predict 13/44.

I think this can do decent number with $80m-$90m domestic total from $30m OW.

It feels to me like the sort of film that will have a soft opening, but better than expected legs.

$20/$70 million for now.

I;m thinking DOA

20m | 60m

could have made far more (35m | 100m+) were it not for THG stealing all the attention.

I'm thinking a 20 Million opening and maybe a 70 Million finish. Nothing bad but not spectacular. That Wrath of the Titans tracking seems off. I know the first isn't beloved, but mainstream audiences didn't exactly hate it. I heard plenty of positive things from people who saw it outside of the movie forums on the internet. And this sequel looks way more epic. Unless Hunger Games totally devours it I don't think it will even be a close race between Wrath and Mirror Mirror for second place.

This looks to get completely squashed at this point. It seems like the Snow White movie over the summer will seem like the "first" Snow White movie, because people will have hardly even noticed this one in THG's shadow.

Also, Clash of the Titans could be looking at a horrendous opening as well. Under $30 m imo would not surprise me. Even under $25 m...

It was just stupid to move Mirror Mirror from a week before to a week after Hunger Games.

I believe this will play well with families with very young children (under 10, maybe 12), but few others.

Yes it looks like it. Which will help it stand apart from THG and the films that follow in April.

That's true. This should play well with younger children who may not be old enough for any hunger games.

This is being underestimated a little. The family audiences that might not go for the bloody Battle-Royale theme of The Hunger Games haven't really had a new option since The Lorax. It could open to $30-35 million and then finish with over $100 million.

Just because there's been nothing since the Lorax (ONLY THREE WEEKS AGO JESUS) doesn't mean MM which has looked like ass for so long is gonna open to 30m+.

There have been streaks of disappointing family movies, in fact, we had one last year for a long period with movies failing to break out one after the other.

For a movie to breakout, it has to also be appealing. If the market's dead or open for it, just because it "fits" doesn't mean it's gonna do well.

Who says it won't appeal to the target audience? I think it looks fun personally.

This might have worked better as a quasi-musical like Enchanted given the central demo of tween girls, or at least make it more clear that it's going for very light family fantasy, and it would help set it apart further in tone from the bigger Snow White film, not to mention HG. As is, it is in a rough spot.

But it will be a huge mother-kids film unlike HG like Lecter said so there's room for it. Perhaps it could snag an audience close to Princess Diaries.

Hunger Games, if you massacred 21 Jump Street, please cause the implosions of Mirror, Mirror and Wrath of the Titans.

In tracking last week, older males were only slightly more interested in Wrath than Hunger, heh. Many may be converted by next weekend. Jump St. is doing ok considering it had openers to itself last weekend.

As far as Mirror, women 25+ picked it at half the rate of Hunger, implying a strong family showing, but women under 25 picked it at less than 10% the rate of Hunger. I imagine lots of young girls will see Hunger twice before Mirror once.

^ That is interesting for Mirror Mirror, it could also benefit from some sneaks of THG (I believe it will be G?).

Plus I believe having Mirror Mirror open after THG was better in sorts but the problem is that it is now before Titanic, so after 5 days of release it will now have to compete with THG, Titanic and too a little extent Wrath and 2 days later American Reunion, that is too big of a competition IMO.

No doubt, this one os going to get lost in the shuffle.

I've never heard of theaters policing a PG13 rating - I don't think it happens.

You do raise a good point though - lots of girls might go see Mirror just to sneak into Hunger afterwards (whether seeing it for the first time or not).
