I wish I could say I was really surprised by this...but I'm not. Whitney will always be one of the greatest voices in music. Really sad.

 Re: Whitney Houston...dead at 48
Sad news. She had a nearly peerless voice and was also a gifted actress. Obviously a very troubled and haunted person in certain respects, but definitely a mega talent. RIP
She has a movie in post-production right now, an update of the '70s cult classic Sparkle co-starring Jordin Sparks and Derek Luke.

Y'all. I'm REALLY sad about this. I still remember my 13-year old self going to see The Bodyguard and immediately rushing out to buy the soundtrack on cassette.

It's soo sad cause it was unexpected. We weren't prepared for this loss. I thought she was getting ready for a comeback last time I heard. This just sucks. gone too soon

 Re: Whitney Houston...dead at 48
I've just been watching the repeated coverage since I learned of this about 7:45. It's just a shock and extremely sad moment. She had such a wonderful voice and I hope we just remember her for her unique voice as Simon Cowell and Lionel Richie have mentioned. Yes she had a troubled past few years but there isn't much point in dredging up those memories. Finally, I've always enjoyed her music and really recognized her when Bodyguard exploded on the charts and later embraced her 80s hits. My most favorite song of hers is the Greatest Love of All. Yes, it's sappy and a bit repetitive lyrically but the vocals just are so overwhelming sometimes that it will have more meaning to me even more now.
RIP Dear Whitney Houston

First MJ, now Whitney. This adds to my urge of having to see Madonna's concert this year, just in case. These are my childhood idols growing up in China in the 80s.

 Re: Whitney Houston...dead at 48
i was LITERALLY watching the diane sawyer clip at work yesterday as we got into a discussion on 'big black singers' or something.
and i was wondering if she'd ever get better, because i knew her 'recovery' in 2009 was a joke
very sad. especially after losing amy last summer. i loved whitney. it's a shame that in 10 years of non-stop singing competitions, we haven't found a voice quite like her's yet.
one of my great college memories was catching the last 10 minutes of the bodyguard on TV at 4 am, drunk off my ass, and trying to sing along 'i will always love you'.
we need a 'heartbreak hotel' youtube clip in this thread.

 Re: Whitney Houston...dead at 48
RIP.
The similarities to MJ are very sad. He also seemed to finally be turning things around in terms of a comeback.
The Bodyguard movie's 20th anniversary is this year, Glee happened to have be featuring Houston's trademark song on its show this week, its the day of Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party, its the eve of the Grammy's, and Maya Rudolph is scheduled to host SNL next Saturday for the first time.
On top of that, 2012 was her return to acting in Sparkle (her first theaterical movie in 16 years), and she apparently was working on a new album as well, and it was just announced two days ago that she was in talks to join the X-Factor.

I hope life treats you kind And I hope you have all you dreamed of And I wish you joy and happiness But above all this, I wish you love I'm still so sad about this, hours later. I grew up listening to Whitney.

Sigh... I just found out about this a few minutes ago. Unbelievable. And it seemed she was on the verge of a big comeback, too.
