 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
Yeah looks like it could do $100m+ total. Nostalgia + new fans + chance to see it in 3D + 100 year anniversary hoopla will make sure it does.
I do think American Reunion should move back a week.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
Yeah this is going to win its weekend. Basically every film I saw in January (which was like 8) had this trailer attached. This thing gonna be huge and retain its #1 glory.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
I still think American Pie and this should not come out the same weekend. Still this is no guarantee to win the weekend. American Reunion can do anything between $30-$50m OW.

I wonder if this will pass $100 million...will they try to push it somehow to pass Avatar and become the #1 domestically again?

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
It would need $150m to pass Avatar. Thats a bit too much but doable. I hope it does pass it.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
Yeah not only that this is going to be big in OS markets as well, yes the amount of crowds that would want to see would be fractional but I wouldn't be surprised by another $300m in OS markets. I am sure Cameron is aiming to pass Titanic over Avatar (quote "Let's have history again"). The only thing it for how long will Titanic hold that title...it will barely get over Avatar if it does domestically and then when Avatar 2 comes out I am sure Avatar will see a re-release and that would mean it would go ahead of Titanic again. Basically both these movies will be in tight race from here on with re-releases if Titanic does a little better in this re-release then over the years of re-releases it will surpass Avatar easily.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
The popularity of the film is still massive. It is sort of like Star Wars and other all time hits. Its not how many people you know who have seen it. It is how many people you know who have not seen it. It was a truly global hit being an all time hit in most markets. Quote: 3. Their are more haters now for the movie Yes but overall the hate for the movie has actualy gone well down from years past. I think all the haters called it a fluke and then Cameron made everyone shutup after Avatar become an all time hit. Globally many saw Avatar and Titanic are around the same level of admissions?

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
I would say Titanic has more admissions globally. 3D prices (+ inflation) really helped Avatar though admissions wise Avatar obviously sold a lot.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
I think the major question is whether this can retake the WW title from Avatar, It needs 940 WW to do that, and 159 to take the domestic title. I'm not counting out Cameron and the overseas market. It's 15 years later and the overseas market place is still trying to catch to where Titanic was.
One has to remember this did 1.2 billion in 97. A time when Jurassic Park's 557 million seemed unreachable. The overseas market has only exploded even more since then. In addition, April is extremely weak this year. I think only American Reunion will pass 100 million, and some other quiet hits. This one can be primed to be absurd.
140 Domestic 620 overseas 750+ WW
If I was going to be conservative, I'd say 400 WW, but I think that is pretty obvious.

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
What? Hell, no! If this does $400m worldwide it would be pretty amazing for a re-release. Forget $940m... or $750m...

 Re: Titanic 3-D/IMAX Re-Release
I'm thinking 3m admissions in Germany alone which would translate to something like $40m...

The rerelease of SW in 97 would adjust to almost 500 million WW today, I could see 300 million just from China, Japan, and the US. And then there is 50+ other countries that should do well. It's more than possible it can do 500+ Titanic was the biggest film of all time in Russia for 4 years and it only made 5 million. It should be able to at least 6X that, and many other countries are the same thing. 30 million would only be solid in Russia nowadays. Thanks to 3D and imax prices, it only needs to match SW and it can still do 600+

There is absolutely no way that 4 million people in Russia will pay to see the movie they have already seen many times on TV, can buy on DVD or Blu-ray and most of all easily illegally download for free. Right now the potential of all re-releases in Russia is very limited.
