Post Comic Relief
Any brits give to Comic Relief this year? What did your local school/college/workplace arrange for it?

The total raised at the time of this post was £37,809,564 [$72.8m] - on that note im really surprised and quite proud at how amazingly the UK has responded to calls for aid and charityover the past few months, with the tsunami effort, Pudsey, and now CIN's great total im actually proud to be a [half] brit
http://www.bbc.co.uk/rednoseday/
I enjoyed the show on Friday night and im donating Monday [because i lost my bank card at college]

I hate how they always cut between the programmes with REALLY sad clips about the kids in Africa; there was this one girl of 3 years old who had been caring for her sick mother since she turned 3 and when her mother eventually died of Aids she was made homeless.
But comic relief helped her find a new home and gave her care etc; yet she also has AIDS now too from her mother and they need more money to help treat her. I find it very harrowing and was really upset by that particular clip, There were other ones like a mother who had to watch her teenage son die of famine and poverty - its all really sad and puts things into perspective.

On the flip side, the Vicar of Dibley and Little Britain were very good, as were the presenters. Lenny Henry is a great man for all he does for Red Nose Day.

Oh please forgive the charaties for inconviencing you with their lifesaving intent and all algren
You should really complain to the BBC that your being deprived a night of entertainment because people are trying to help others; what is the world coming to eh?

Well, i wouldn't be caught dead sitting in on a friday night, so i watched some when i came in.

Dawn French's husband was hilarious as the Secretary Of State! Lmfao.

And MCFLY's singles rock, glad their doing so well.

One of the clips made me and my friends cry though :( 3 year old girl in africa, who's going to die soon from HIV, because she can't get an injection that costs just 25p!!!

Horrible.

Glad we raised so much money. I'm gonna buy MCFLY's single to contribute even more (gave £5 in school and £1 in the gadget shops' bucket!)

Good on UK for raising so much money.

asking people something and then getting a reply back with a reason requires not putting another person down. You asked .. he insulted no one .. just stated that he finds it boring ....

I dont know why you intervened to call
"thats sad, you obviously dont have the good comic relief spirit in you!" a personal attack. Its not; Algren said he didnt, whats the big deal?

Even if the show is boring, the cause is good. Firing back with "there are too many charaties" is just weak; as though they are part of some film genre thats been oversaturated. How can there be "too many"? Theres certainly too many dying children in africa who aren't being helped by the western world, so clearly theres not enough money going around.

Whats the deal with you constantly ragging on my posts baba? Everything i say you dismiss or critisize. Infact, you posted in this thread not to contribute, but rather to call me out, again. Im getting fed up of being treated like shit or having my posts broken down like a movie.

I never asked if anyone was finding it boring, i was asking if anyone is doing anything for it this year.
Its a damned good cause and if people can't get into the spirit of charity then i feel genuinely sorry for them. Even if i dont do anything for the cause i still donate.

i did not even comment on that.

I do not see why someone needs to be mocked for enjoying something else on tv when clearly a person replies to your thread first and when questioned further, proceeds to give only his reason for it and no more. Its not warranted.

i did not post in this thread to call you out on anything. I came in here to defend someone who clearly doesn't deserve the treatment. Its not like Algren came in here to just say charities suck and walk off. You asked for answers from brits, hes a brit, replied, you came and and questioned him and he replied back. This was followed by a pretty uncalled for mocking session from you.

Same shit, different day.

As for the Comic Relief, I don't know a lot about it, other than the comedy aspect.

What i meant by too many charities is, i think there should be one huge global charity, that way i feel people would be more inclined to give and it would be easier also...because we dont actually know where our money goes with these smaller charities.

To me, Comic Relief is just another charity, but bigger.....and the show, to me is boring.

Baba, to be honest, i dont care if im getting slammed for this "personal attack", screw it - saying there are too many charaties is a stupid thing to do [in the context it was read in] and i dont give a crap if anyone else wants to come down on me for getting pissed at Algren and saying what i think - he knows i dont hate him [how can i if i dont even know him?] and sarcastically posting an extended eyeroll is hardly going to destroy him. Now hes clarified his opinon into something thats wholy less drastic and i agree with him on it. Furthermore why dont you start calling out other people for similar or worse things? I cant be bothered coming here any more if all im ever going to get is you slamming me for everything i say. Its making it not worthwhile.

Algren just clarified what he meant, hes obviously not offended. You've blown something thats common protocol for me [im sarcastic to all my friends about everything on a regular basis] into some sort of bitchfight.

"As for the Comic Relief, I don't know a lot about it, other than the comedy aspect."

Its a very worthwhile cause where the BBC and all the major people in UK entertainment come together to provide a night of entertainment asking viewers to pledge money to the Comic Relief [Children in Need] charity. Special editions of programs are made and everyone ever whos famous basically has a laugh to help out raise money.

Basically it provides for those in need in the United Kingdom and in places like Africa; the way the people etc deal with it is all quite inspirational and its just a great, great cause that the UK gets really involved in; last year the donnations were at £60m, this year the total is standing just bellow £40m but should pass £60 when the finals come in.

Most colleges and schools do lots of stuff for raising money.

Theres another similar fundraser for Pudsey the Bear that gets alot of donations too.

To be honest, this is the same shit, in a different day. Michael says something, someone disagrees, Michael retaliates, bABA says something against Michael, Michael retorts, Rusty says he's lost, and it all starts again and again. My suggestion is Arsi should PM Michael about this, because it seems to happen day after day, and NO progress is made. If Michael causes THAT much trouble, talk to him in private about it. Personally, I don't see a big problem, but obviously Arsi does, and I guess there are others.

What did I do now? People are so gung-ho on fixing problems with the forum, I'm showing what I have problems with. It just seems to be a never-ending cycle, like with Goldie.

See, now you added to that, and I missed it. You're opinionated, and that's good! But, Arsi constantly has a problem with you, and I think a PM is sufficed, not this constant "Michael, no one is saying this" and blah blah blah.

I just thought the point of a forum is to share and debate opinons on various different things ? It just seems like even a topical news question like this turns into somewhat of a huge argument when Baba calls me out for something or the other; like im doing something wrong for being sarcastic when its what i do every day
Am i supposed to act false? I value hearing the opinons of other people even if i dont agree with it - and i assume that others are up for the same exchanges in opinon that i am.

To be honest - i hate coming on this forum to have an argument; a debate - im there, but everything always turns ugly more times than not and next thing you know its an immature smashfest where everyones slagging each other off and those who werent even in the topic jut in to side with someone

Well, it's the only Olympic event we're good at. They just never talk about it, or televise it.

What!??

No ones asking you to shut up and listen.

Sheesh. He just clarified as well. How does what he say read as they shouldn't do these charities. he just said they're boring.
Theres a difference between disagreeing with someone's opinion and ridiculiing their way of thinking without them not even stating anything more than a personal opinion on if they enjoyed watching a certain event or not. I'm not here to advocate what a proper response to something shoudl be but i'm more than willing to point out an unfair remark to someone.
