Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open '11
Rafa v. Roger is set for Aussie. Since the two are likely to be on the same draw a lot now, we could be seeing this matchup much more frequently than in the past.
Strange though that this is the first time in a major open where the two will face each other and NEITHER is the favorite to win the tourney.

Re: The Tennis Thread - U.S. Open '11
I've watched about 30 minutes of tennis for the Australian Open. I just haven't been interested in it this year. Serena is out, Venus is out, Li Na lost a couple days ago. I guess I can root for Clijsters. The women might be able to get the top 4 seeds to meet in the semis. I don't know if that's happened in a while. I don't think it has.
As for the men, I haven't watched one second of play except for a youtube clip of Bhagdatis ruining 4 rackets. Hopefully Fed can get back on the winning track. I'm surprised Nadal kept playing even after he tweaked his knee but it sounded at lot worse when I read about it. I thought he might have pulled out. He should let that knee heal imo.

That was a tough match to lose for Li Na.

Re: The Tennis Thread - Australian Open '12
I lost interest in the women's game a few years ago, but I'm still pulling for Clijsters win a second title in her final Australian Open, having knocked out #1 Wozniaki, seeds 2, 3, and 4 are still in it, and look good for the final 4. I thought she was done for in the Na match, but Na did her walkabout and that was it.
The men should hold true to form and have 1-4 in the semis. I'll be up at 3.30am to watch the Fed/Nadal match on Thursday morning, and I still expect Nadal to win. Even with his injury, which he seems to have at every grand slam. I haven't seen too much of Murray this tournament, and Novak's been looking good save for a stretch in the 3rd against Hewitt. Probably looking at a rematch of 2011 Us Open final. Should be a good finish to the tournament.

Oooohhh . Screamers are really testing my patience.
Maria moves on. Good show but someone needs to muzzle her.

I think I find Azarenka's grunting more annoying.

I'm off to bed. Nishikora gave away that 1st set. He had Murray mumbling but couldn't convert a 3 break. C'mon .

Re: The Tennis Thread - Australian Open '12
Even the women's final 4 is good. If Kvitova wins we finally have a dominant young player and true #1. Azarenka can establish herself and start getting some of that hype. Sharapova and Clijsters would add to their resumes but I'm hoping for Kvitova/Azarenka final

I'll be rooting for Sharapova.
And.
Nadal has Fed's number again! However, Djokovic has Nadal's number. I'm assuming Novak will be in the final. Murray isn't winning any major while those 3 are playing.

Re: The Tennis Thread - Australian Open '12
An almost 5 hour match that could have gone either way.
However, the better player triumphs once again. Novak vs Rafa. I'm thinking Rafa wins.
I'm hoping Maria wins tomorrow night.

Rafa getting an extra day rest BS! And stopping a match for fireworks is another BS!

Re: The Tennis Thread - Australian Open '12
I feel bad for Maria. I think this was worse than the Serena beat down. She was just slow, afraid to come in, no defense, pushed side to side in rallies, and plain outplayed and out hit. This loss is gonna linger.

This men's final has been a marathon.
If Nadal can get this to 5 it could be anyone's game.

Yeah what a match.
Though just couldnt stay awake for the final set. Shame Rafa couldn't win but with an epic like that I guess it doesnt matter.

Both Djokovic and Federer got tested today, but prevailed. And Azarenka's out; as per usual, the women's side is wide open.

Not getting my hope up yet, but maybe Na could defend her title.
