Re: China Box Office (The Flowers of War vs. Flying Swords)
Look like The Flowers of War won the opening week battle, but both had sensational start, grossing over $20m each. TFOW should make a run at $100m with its WOM.

Re: China Box Office (The Flowers of War vs. Flying Swords)
Chinese films are becoming way more popular in mainland China. Its been a while though since a Chinese film has found mainstream success in North America.
I remember 10+ years ago films like Hidden Dragon, House of Flying Daggers and Hero were very popular and well liked films here.

Yeah, Aftershock and Let the Bullets Fly were made with only the Mainland audience in mind. At the rate of China's box office growth, we might not see another mainstream success for another decade or two.

I watched those two films and they are okay films but something Chinese audiences would understand and like more.

Re: China Box Office (The Flowers of War vs. Flying Swords)
Yeah, some of the dark humors in Let the Bullets Fly may only be understood by the Chinese audience. To me, it's one of the best Chinese movies in the last decade and close to Jiang Wei's best effort to date in Devils on the Doorstep.

Certainly; it's an equivalent of having 2 $100m+ 4-day openers in the U.S. on the same weekend.

And a huge week for both films. The Flowers of War earned another 202.5m yuan ($31.93m), and Flying Swords got 175m yuan ($27.6m). Both have surged past 300m yuan.

Most likely because of the 20 foreign films quota.

Re: China Box Office (The Flowers of War vs. Flying Swords)
As its the end of the year, what were the final totals for the biggest Hollywood films in China.
TF3 did over 170+ million.
DH2 did 65 million.
TF3 got around nearly half of the North American box office total in China. China really helped TF3 that looked to be getting perhaps just over a billion to well over 1.1 billion.

With Christian Bale playing an amazing role in The Flower of War I would love to see the extra surge for his movies in China, specially TDKR.

Mission: Impossible 4's release date is pushed back a few days to 1/28.
The yearly chart should be available in a couple of weeks.

It's certainly a growing market. I'm shocked by that Transformers 3 number.
