 www.worldofkj.com
This is a borderline thread that could go in the "The Site" forum, but it's also a more personal question, and since more people will see it here, I'm posting it here. If they want to move it, they can.
I have some questions that I'm really curious about, so if you could please answer them, it would be much appreciated, and this question is for everyone, mods, members, administrators, writers, etc...
I'll answer the questions too, and hopefully, this thread will be extremely helpful to Eagle, bABA, and the rest of us.
Questions
1. How often do you check out more than just the forums here? Do you have any interest in the site, or just a place to hangout?
2. Is this place your home on the net, and if so , do you miss your last net home?
3. Do you like the direction of the site, and the upcoming plans of interactive games, news, exclusives, reviews, trailers, predictions and analysis, opinion columns, etc...?
4. Do you feel like the name and site design have what it takes to attract people to find out what our content is? Have a look. http://www.worldofkj.com
I hope that was painless, and I hope everybody takes a few minutes to answer the questions.

Questions
1. How often do you check out more than just the forums here? Do you have any interest in the site, or just a place to hangout?
I was terrible about checking the main site for awhile there, but the more new things that start becoming a regular part of it, has made me check it out a lot more now. I actually have more interest in the site as a whole than just the forum part of it.
2. Is this place your home on the net, and if so , do you miss your last net home?
This is my home, and I don't miss any of my former homes.
3. Do you like the direction of the site, and the upcoming plans of interactive games, news, exclusives, reviews, trailers, predictions and analysis, opinion columns, etc...?
I'm very excited about the stuff being done and the stuff coming up. I hope this place explodes in popularity, and everyone here gets to see what it feels like to be a groundfloor member of a popular website and a forum with countless membership.
4. Do you feel like the name and site design have what it takes to attract people to find out what our content is? Have a look. http://www.worldofkj.com
Part of me is iffy on the name, and another part feels it's perfectly fine and unique. I love the new site design, and I'd love to see the forums match, and our great new logo in the top left corner.
I think it has potential to be really big, as long as it offers quality, as well as things that can't be found elsewhere. Just like a movie, good WOM will propel our popularity , and bad WOM will keep us as pretenders, while imdb, aicn, comingsoon, and others get all the glory.

just a note. Not all the sections are up. The RT game will be operational soon as well as a box office game that was suggested by a player here.
There will be a trailer section again, but this time, with better and more frequent updates (due to creation of an admin panel and better searchability).
The reviews will ofcourse, always be there.
We will also feature movie news though no structure as yet created for that.
There is talks with a forum member right now for dvd reviews.
Exclusives is something that will be very important. We're all working on strategies on how to get more of them and how to utilize the member population for that.
The sports section will be coming up soon, thanks to friends of Eagle.
The predictions are already there.
The Box Office Analysis of franchise or big films will become a regular. Sin City got a bit of buzz just like the batman article did a couple of months ago.
Opinion articles on movies will be worked upon.
Finally, some box office charts may become available with commentary. This is in its very early development stage.
Note that from everything i've written on top, only a few are completely functional right now, a few coming soon and the rest still require a clear cut strategy.

1. How often do you check out more than just the forums here? Do you have any interest in the site, or just a place to hangout?
I used to be like Mav...not check the site to often during the first month or so. But not I check it on a regular basis. I think it has made great strides and looks fantastic
2. Is this place your home on the net, and if so , do you miss your last net home?
This is my only home, and no I do not miss my last home because all my friends are here plus a batch of new posters. This is a great place and I love it. Great community, great people good friends.
3. Do you like the direction of the site, and the upcoming plans of interactive games, news, exclusives, reviews, trailers, predictions and analysis, opinion columns, etc...?
I am really excited about the upcoming plans for KJ. I am glad to be apart of this flourishing community and I think in time, this site can get really big. However thats not to say I dont enjoy our smaller more personal community we have now
4. Do you feel like the name and site design have what it takes to attract people to find out what our content is? Have a look. http://www.worldofkj.com
Yes. I think the new layout and design of the site is a big improvment, and better eye candy than before. The name "worldofkj" is sorta...blah, but its growing on me.

1. I only use the forums, I rarely go to the actual site, although the new design is much more appealing, so I might check it out better.
2. This place is probably my most frequented board, so if that means "home", sure. I don't miss my last "home", just the people that were there and now who I can't talk to.
3. Love the direction of the site. The new design is great. The predictions are good, reviews are a nice read Keep up the good work mods/admins/editors/etc.
4. Personally I don't like the name of the site, and don't think it's very good at representing the material or attracting new people. A new site name would be cool. Just my opinion, of course, please don't take offense.
Hope that helps!
PEACE, Mike

1. How often do you check out more than just the forums here? Do you have any interest in the site, or just a place to hangout?
I normally check the main site about every other day. The news section is a great addition since i'm addicted to current events. The forums are amazing.
2. Is this place your home on the net, and if so , do you miss your last net home?
Yahoo news is my home on the net But this is the forum i frequent the most; though in the summer i do join some RPG sites if I can. The best part of this forum is that while it is media based, you have the watercooler section which makes it a lot more like a e-home.
3. Do you like the direction of the site, and the upcoming plans of interactive games, news, exclusives, reviews, trailers, predictions and analysis, opinion columns, etc...?
I love the direction of the site. The reviews are amazing, opinion colums are great. The RT game was really good; it'd be amazing if you could link it to the forums so that in the profile information on the game would be posted.
4. Do you feel like the name and site design have what it takes to attract people to find out what our content is? Have a look. http://www.worldofkj.com
I really like the name because it's original. I guess if you want to make it more "professional" you'd have a name that is media based (ie. the-numbers, boxofficemojo [though i don't get the mojo part]) but i think that the name is very unique and this site is not a traditional boxoffice site. Hopefully as mentioned above you'll discuss box office, dvd reviews, you have movie reviews, exclusives, news, maybe book section ((:))) etc.
Suggestions for any potential web redesigns:
- colour are great; don't change them
- i would change the margins and exten them to the right and left. That way you could probably fit a bit more on the site without scrolling down.
- I would bring the Articles and recent news up (but i'm biased since i particularly like that section)
- All the information bars are yellow; maybe change colours to emphasize difference of articles. Ie make opinion pieces have a red bar, the movie bar have like a green colour etc.
The website is great; those changes are just small things I chose since you asked for potential changes.

Questions
1. How often do you check out more than just the forums here? Do you have any interest in the site, or just a place to hangout?
Too rare unfortunately. Once per two or three days.
2. Is this place your home on the net, and if so , do you miss your last net home?
As Mike said, if home=most visited place, then yes. And do not miss last home, as still visiting that place.
3. Do you like the direction of the site, and the upcoming plans of interactive games, news, exclusives, reviews, trailers, predictions and analysis, opinion columns, etc...?
Yep. BO game is a must!
4. Do you feel like the name and site design have what it takes to attract people to find out what our content is? Have a look. http://www.worldofkj.com
To attract more people, name prolly not. But I like it. Design is great though.

1. How often do you check out more than just the forums here? Do you have any interest in the site, or just a place to hangout?
I've recently entered the inner circle. I check the site first, then the forum.
2. Is this place your home on the net, and if so , do you miss your last net home?
I've never considered a site a home before. But if I did, KJ would be it.
3. Do you like the direction of the site, and the upcoming plans of interactive games, news, exclusives, reviews, trailers, predictions and analysis, opinion columns, etc...?
I think as the Summer movie season kicks into high gear, we'll see more exclusive content. Post Oscar through the end of April is fairly slow. I look forward to what's on the horizon
4. Do you feel like the name and site design have what it takes to attract people to find out what our content is? Have a look. http://www.worldofkj.com
I like KJ but it doesn't stand out. It's a keystroke away from KY's website.

1. How often do you check out more than just the forums here? Do you have any interest in the site, or just a place to hangout?
I used to never go to the main site, but sinc rhe redsign I go there about once every two days. The layout still needs some work, and there's no news or anything so there's no real reason to go there everday for now.
2. Is this place your home on the net, and if so , do you miss your last net home?
This is my home on the net, and no, I don't miss my last home. Any time I start to miss is, I just drop by and see the complete mess it's turned into and i'm fine.
3. Do you like the direction of the site, and the upcoming plans of interactive games, news, exclusives, reviews, trailers, predictions and analysis, opinion columns, etc...?
The direction of the site is great. You guys seme to have big time goals, which is really cool. If you can pull them off, I see no reason the site won't get huge.
4. Do you feel like the name and site design have what it takes to attract people to find out what our content is? Have a look. http://www.worldofkj.com
The name should probably, at some point, be changed. Right now, if I were to tell someone I got to World Of KJ, they'd have no clue what the site was about. You need to have a name that reflects the content of the site. The new site design is a definite upgrade from the first, but it sill needs some work. The color scheme isin't great, and the layout needs some retooling. I can't quite put my finger on what it needs exactly, but something is off.

1. How often do you check out more than just the forums here? Do you have any interest in the site, or just a place to hangout?
I have visited the main site here and there. I hope I dont offend anyone here, but for all the facts and charts, I go to BOM, but I always check my reviews here. I visit the forums more often then I do the site, but the site is a wonderful place.
2. Is this place your home on the net, and if so , do you miss your last net home?
Its not the primary place I go to on the net, but stay here as long as I stay at the other site I always visit...Naturalflux7.com
3. Do you like the direction of the site, and the upcoming plans of interactive games, news, exclusives, reviews, trailers, predictions and analysis, opinion columns, etc...?
This site has the most potential for becoming the next "big" thing in my opinion. The site is going in an upward direction, with original articles, humorous links, and other great things. I think when the site is, in some terms, "complete", I'll visit the site WAY more often.
4. Do you feel like the name and site design have what it takes to attract people to find out what our content is? Have a look.
To answer the question, WorldofKJ doesn't really attract people. Sort of how I didn't know that Ebaumsworld was a place of funny movies, and fun games. The name shouldn't change though, because I love the abbreviation: WOKJ!

Questions [which i will answer honestly]
1. How often do you check out more than just the forums here? Do you have any interest in the site, or just a place to hangout?
Only sometimes. The design is somewhat confusing for me to be able to adapt, but that said i know alot of my sites visitors visit our site for specific areas and never venture outwith like Mojoland, so its a similar deal. Yet i do have a peek around every now and then.
2. Is this place your home on the net, and if so , do you miss your last net home?
Nope, although this probobly lodges second.
3. Do you like the direction of the site, and the upcoming plans of interactive games, news, exclusives, reviews, trailers, predictions and analysis, opinion columns, etc...?
I think KJ originally had a personal, quirky personality, and already i feel that in the aims to turn it into something bigger its losing that quirky core rapidly - i liked the images of people on the mainpage. It would be nice to keep the cosy, personal theme that the site stemmed from. Its all very well promising massive projects etc; but executing its a tougher deal altogether. KJ has a huge advantage over many sites though due to its massive user inheritance; but i feel that this site has somewhat been hijacked from its original purpose as a personal site; the users are here and using the forums as an alternate to another forum [which they did to dailysmile the first time sean banned them all, under different circumstances KJ could have been left in ruins too] and the building of the site from that will be a component unless its really really really really really well thought out and finished.
4. Do you feel like the name and site design have what it takes to attract people to find out what our content is? Have a look. http://www.worldofkj.com
On the design: the logo needs to go and it needs more oomph. I think turning the site from a personal, bloggy site that it originally was to a movie site is going to be a very difficult thing to pull off. But i will be interested to see how it turns out. Its probobly a good idea to sit down and discuss exactly what is wanted from the site - since working in a team provides an even bigger hope for success.

If I want personal, I'll start a blog or a yahoo group. I much prefer the change to a more appealing movie website.

Not sure if thats sarcasm of genuine
As for having this all out movie site, i dont see the point in that, there are oodles of movie websites with no personality and in the end they all merge into a sterile blur, BOM has the personality of a dead dodo, without stats it would have died a death long ago. I like the idea of movie sites with people behind it and a unique identity.

Meh. Michael actually makes a decent point. Do we want this place to feel corporate pre-fab or a personal site. Me personally? I want it to grow, but not exponentially. I'd like to see about 1 new member a day, and hopefully 1 or 2 new memebers a week (from those) that actually become active users. That would give us a healthy manageable and personable number of active users. One of the things is the kind of mom-n-pop feel of the place. I don't want it to be confining, but I don't want to lose all traces of that either. I think it works pretty well as long as forum members are active in the front. I like how Karl takes anyone who wants to contribute to the site, all ages and levels, even if they only want to submit one small comment on a trailer per year. It kind of has that home grown feel to it. Knowing we've got true fans doing the reviews and predicting and trailer commentary and opinion pieces. I don't want it to feel like it was outsourced, etc.
The past layout still had some problems. A little too homegrown, but I also don't want this to feel like every other moviesite. We're looking into it though by including so muhc material from people in the forums. So its just about finding a presentation now that parallels that rather than glazes it over.
It a nice place, and I would like to think that by Decemeber (which is 10 months, so almost a year) we have 100 more active users (I know that doesn't mean how many new registers). That's a good number to aim for, I don't want to see this place explode with 500 and no one knowing anyone's name and half the other kookie stories I hear about places like RT (that are so huge).

It was genuine sarcasm.
We aren't going for a sterile website, which is why the opinion columns are there. We aren't going for a static ,corperate, structured, by the book, no surprises, boring, seen it all before website.
We also aren't going for a glorified web blog so people can throw the word "personal" around. BOM was all about stats. Facts. No opinions, until Scott Holleran started making himself look like a big ass, and the administrator showed how unprofessional he is. That's the personality they have.
Just stay tuned, and realize that not ALL big websites are impersonal.

Well im determined to make sure NF7 continues to have a strong impression of my personality and the personality of the visitors - i prize a good old dose of opinon and individualism [although bias only in the terms of different opinons presented]
I really think that if KJ had an impression of opinon and quirkiness of the people that run it - that it would be a really great site.
I have noticed that BOM is getting bias in its reports etc, the difference between BOM and a site like KJ or NF7 is that KJ and NF7 dont claim to be totally 100% impartial, infact the point of many reports is to get opinons across rather than summarise facts like BOM and i openly admit that NF7 reports on things that interest me more than things i dont give a shit about [hopefully when other people join the new site team and do the same we will cover more ground]. But you'd be forgiven to say that for all BOM presents itself as an impartial unbias, factual based corporation - its infact smothered in thick layers of subtle, and not so subtle bias that supports agendas.
BOM's oscar report was notably vapid in this area. But BOM is failing in all other areas apart from providing stats - no one is really interested in the opinons of its writers, and the forums are a deadzone of n00bs,

i think at the end of the day, kj will be more about opinions than anything else. Remember that its main focus at the end of the day is reviews .. and that too from multiple people. Plus the opinion columns, box office analysis (usually hosted by someone whos a fan so already partial : ) ), anticipation list and trailer reviews ...
the games are for the members and mostly for fun.
the only real corporate thing about it will be its archive of trailers, news links and exclusive materials (if any). I think thats good enough. its one of the reasons why till this day, my favorite movie site ever has been prophets. They have their style and its always personal : )

Honestly, and I really hope this doesn't upset Karl, but getting rid of the pictures of people on the side of the main page was a great decision. I know that, personally, if I was a n00b and I went to the main page and saw those pictures, i'd feel like I was intruding into someone's personal website. I get that that's what it used to be, but if you guys do want to expand the site to a larger audience, getting rid of the pictures was a good choice.
As for the whole personal/corporate thing, you can have a "big" website and still have personal touches. I think the opinion articles you guys have going now are a great way to do that. You don't have to have it one way or the other. Infact, almost all big websites have personal touches. Every review or article is bound to have a person's opinion in it. Infact, unless you ran a site like BOR, having your personal touch on a website is nearly impossible to avoid.
Anywho, I have to run now, but there's my two cents for what it's worth.

They have their style and its always personal : ) Well its good that you've thought and weighed out a balance. Its something im still doing for the new nf7 which is actually giving me a hernia because its being such a bastard to do. ](*,)
are you switching off from the forum? are you making a page like you told me once some time ago?
