 Re: Weekend Estimates
Haven't seen CSL but if it really is more realistic, well, that means it can't be as outrageous as R-rated comedies since those take helluva lot of liberties.
Also, I don't see why having such large midnights and not-so-great legs is bad for Potter. I think it's a testament of how strong the fanbase and should be a pluspoint. After all, it's not having bad WOM, the gross is just spread out differently. BOM will never understand this especially Twilight-apologists.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
Quite good for Crazy, Stupid, Love considering it no doubt was stuck on smaller-size theaters across the country. It's a commendable opening, especially considering where tracking (fail) had it pegged. I still see about $80M total, maybe more.
Hope Harry Potter can drop less than 50% next weekend. Horrible Bosses looks to top out at about $120M, very good performance.
Magnus, I think you may be overreaching with your PG-13 conclusion. Crazy, Stupid, Love appealed to the oldest audience out of all of those films (an audience known for not necessarily rushing out opening weekend) and it didn't have the broad premise any of those four films had either, which made them more immediately identifiable.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
Very good number for CSL. A little more than expected drop for Potter, hope it can stabilize soon, $400m is out of question now, if it continues to fall then I guess we will not see $375m.

LMAO @ the first place tie. So predictable! When was the last time there was a tie at first place, anyway?

 Re: Weekend Estimates
Its suprising to see that only 53 percent of the audience for Cowboys was male. Usually these kind of movies skew like 60% male, but I guess the lack of younger moviegoers helped it become more broad overall.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
I wouldn't say $370m as MAX for DH2 from here on, it can still make $380m. It would start to loose theaters now which would be biggest problem, specially with an overcrowded August, anyways I does not really require those many screens for the money it is making. It really needs some good holds in next 2 weekends cause I think horror movies will effect it more than family movies.
Interestingly it is just $4m ahead from HP6's 3rd weekend which went on to make $46m from here, but this one is dropping harder.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
http://blogs.indiewire.com/thompsononho ... _love_sco/Meanwhile Warners’ romantic ensemble comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love earned an A among the under 25 crowd and a B+ overall. “We’ve been talking to theater owners all morning and there’s a lot of applause at the end,” beamed Warner Bros. distribution chief Dan Fellman. Critics, who delivered a glowing 74% fresh rating, helped to drive adults to this Carell comedy, which is more in the spirit of his and Tina Fey’s Date Night than Get Smart. Warners may try to position the film heading into award season. “There are a lot of things we’re looking at,” says Fellman, who sees long legs for the film, which drew 64% female with 71% over 25.71% over 25. Wow. Though really not surprising.

 Re: Weekend Estimates
So Smurfs followed Alvin to the t. What is it about these movies that makes them so undertracked? Also it did quite a number on Zookeeper, Cars 2, Pooh.
Why would Captain drop so much on Sunday - some big sporting event on?
