Hmm, with Japan, Hong Kong and Italy ahead $500 million is a close call now, though $600+ million worldwide is still a lock.

mark66 wrote: $14.3m/$404m At this rate, i'll probably make $450m without the markets which haven't opened yet. It's definately looking good for $500m though not much more. Still a very good gross and will probably be the 4th highest of the year, but somewhat dissapointing because most of us expected it to explode like Ice Age 3. It didn't...

Re: KUNG FU PANDA 2: The Kaboom Of Doom (INTL.)
That is definitely a good hold from last weekend's $20m. Looks like it will see an okish increase from the original in OS markets, though it will end up quite close to the WW total of the original. This does not bode well for a series of 6 movies though they might be profitable on a controlled budget.

I can't see this making less than 2m OW next week in Hong Kong. It has a shot at 3m but demand for Harry Potter is still quite high. Pre-sales so far have been quite good as peak showtimes were 10-20% sold out in just 1 day. We will know more once all schedules are released in a couple of days.

$413,110,144
A good $4m for the week. Let's see how much this will be effected by HP taking its overall screens and specially 3D screens. It should cross the originals total of 416.3m by end of this weekend. It is slowing down considerably now. Looks like this will end just a little shy of the original's WW total of $631.7m or might marginally cross that mark.

Quote: Fourth was DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 2 in 3D, which grossed $422 million so far overseas thanks to a $9.5 million weekend at 5,192 locations in 57 territories.

Finally it passes the original's OS total. $500m OS total might be difficult now. Given that this was in 3D (much more 3D screens) this number is not quite good.

Both KFP2 and Cars 2 disappointed in domestic and overseas boxoffice.
However, KFP2 will likely be the bigger than Cars 2 worldwide as I had predicted.

$8.2m boosted by Korea, OS total is now $437.7m
It is yet to pass $600m WW total mark, though it should pass that and Fast Five in WW total. Will need sometime to pass $631m WW total of the original

How much did it make in Korea? Didn't it make 1.4m in France?
Also, Kung Fu Panda 2's actual in Hong Kong has been adjusted up to $1,738,975.

The gross before was $1.6 so I guess it would be increase by $0.1m

Re: KUNG FU PANDA 2: The Kaboom Of Doom (INTL.)
Finally it crossed $600m WW total. Tied at #62 with Fast Five, should cross that today.
Domestic: $160,963,538 + Foreign: $442,603,365 = Worldwide: $603,566,903
Still needs another $30m to cross the original, as expected it should be end up very close to the original. Japan shouldn't have a big boost in its total, $500m OS is out of question.

Re: KUNG FU PANDA 2: The Kaboom Of Doom (INTL.)
Slowed down considerably now, it will have hard time crawling past $631m WW total set by the original. Quote: DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 2 came in with $4.5 million on the weekend collected from 3,304 venues in 59 territories. Foreign cume for the Paramount release totals $447.5 million, gathered since opening overseas on May 26

If it matches or comes close to the original in Italy then Japan will take it over the top even though it will decrease at least 33% from the original.

Re: KUNG FU PANDA 2: The Kaboom Of Doom (INTL.)
Now at #60 in the WW list passing F5, both of these still have Japan opening left.
Domestic: $161,678,000 Foreign: $447,500,000 Worldwide: $609,178,000
The surprising thing is that it is still playing 59 markets, it will be difficult to cross $631m WW total of the original from here on, it might require Japan to push it past that mark.

Italy generally is kind to animated movies so I guess Italy can get it to $631m or take it above $625m mark.

It can still make about 2m more in Hong Kong so that will take it to 611m. With the rest of the holdovers, 616m. It would only need to make 15m from Italy + Japan so it seems very doable.

Re: KUNG FU PANDA 2: The Kaboom Of Doom (INTL.)
Not sure how good/bad drops are there for holdover markets. It was at $603.5m before this weekend, so of the total $5.6m it made $4.5m over the weekend, which looks really suspicious. I think they are including the whole week numbers from holdovers and HK's weekend gross to the weekend total, which makes me think this will not do much from holdovers.

Re: KUNG FU PANDA 2: The Kaboom Of Doom (INTL.)
Domestic Total : $162,993,509 Overseas Total : $452,011,304
Worldwide Total : $615,004,813
It has slowed down considerably now, both in domestic as well as OS. Still though it should cross the original's $631m WW total, it still has an outside shot at $650m with Japan and Italy still ahead (possibly Indonesia as well).

It will definitely make it past the original.
Thank you Indonesia!

385K euros from previews in Italy, a pretty bad result if compared to recent DW animated films released in August (Shrek 3 made like 2M). I guess this rules out 650M OS.

That's poor opening. It might not cross $631m WW total of the original at this rate.
