RUSSIA / CIS - Opening Weekend

Every Potter flick has increased in this market culminating in this, the 6th largest OW of all-time and the 3rd largest for 2011. It looks like Pirates 4 will end the year on top, though Potter should roll home with the largest gross of the franchise. The opening was a very strong 53% above HP7-1 overall and is clearly aiming for $30m+.

Well, in Russia we might not see a top20 contender (10m + opening) until November.

The realistic goal this weekend should be to at least pass the WW gross of Revenge of the Sith. That would put it at 850M, with 1B in sight by the end of the 3rd weekend.

It should be very close if not at $600m overseas by the end of the week. This one will definately hit $900m overseas especially with China coming up. It has an outside chance at $1billion OS.

Potter dropped by 70% on Thurday in Russia.
Only 1,187,166 with 24,754,069 total.
Definitely much more frontloaded than T3 with lower midweek grosses.

I bet we will. Planet of the Apes ($2.2 m) was 2001' 2nd highest grosser behind Mummy 2 ($3.05 m), and did twice as much as Shrek ($1.1 m). If that one fails, I can see Cowboys & Aliens doing over $10 m OW. Conan, which is being advertised on TV already, might try its luck too. Or FD5?

This time last week, HP7-2 made $37.6m. I still think it can hit $150m overseas this weekend for a gross around $575m-585m.

Too optimistic. Without Wednesday and Thursday previews last weekend gross was around $265-270m. Put at least 50-55% average drop to that number.
Besides last summer Potter dropped from $236 to 90m

Competition this week is weak, i see a good hold and good build through the weekend. I certainly will not be dropping any less than $125m that's for sure.

If it does, it is likely to challenge HP1 to become the biggest HP film of all time in the Netherlands as well. We'll see if it has a shot depending on its second week drop. HP3 dropped 35% on its second weekend, HP5 dropped 31.4% and HP6 dropped 43.5%, if its drop is around that of HP3/5 then I see it crossing €15 million and challenging HP1. The weather is sure working along with HP7.2, Friday was decent but yesterday and today are completely miserable. Bad weather usually helps films perform better, so it might not collapse this weekend.

The weekend haul of $121.3m through Warner Bros Pictures International boosted the running total to $560.4m after 12 days. The lead market was the UK, where $14.3m (£8.9m) pushed the tally up to $71.1m (£44.6m).

The film already ranks as the biggest Warner Bros release in Latin America and the biggest in the franchise in Eastern Europe, while the combined tally from Europe, the Middle East and Africa has overtaken the lifetime total of Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban.

In other key results:

Germany: $12.7m (€9m) for $47.3m (€33.5m);

France: $11.7m (€8.3m) for $42m (€29.8m);

Japan: $8.6m (¥681.5m) for $49m (¥3.9bn);

Australia: $8.4m (A$7.9m) for $41.1m (A$38.6m);

Brazil: $6m (R$9.4m) for $24.9m (R$39.3m)
Biggest Warner Bros film of all time;

South Korea: $5.5m (KRW 5.8bn) for $19.5m (KRW 20.6bn);

Russia: $5.4m (Rbl 152m) for $29.8m (Rbl 839.8m)
Biggest Warner Bros film of all time;

Mexico: $5.1m (Ps 59.6m) for $28.3m (Ps 333.1m)

Italy: $3.2m (€2.3m) for $25.2m (€17.9m);

Spain: $2.7m (€1.9m) for $15.7m (€11.1m); and

Scandinavia: The film has surpassed the lifetime grosses of the first four in the series and stands at $29.5m, on a par with the lifetime gross of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1.

I Love Netherlands, it's probably the kindest market to movies in terms of weekly drops. You very rarely get a drop in the 50%+....

It's falling much harder than anticipated. I thought it would be at around $575m at least this weekend.

From here on out i think it can do at least $750m+ overseas, legs will surely get better from here on out.

China should add another $50m+ or so, this will top $800m. Though it needs to drop much better if it is to hit $900m.

At the momment, i'm thinking $385m + $830m = $1.215bn.

At the momment, i'm seeing....

Harry Potter 7-2 = $820-850m
Pirates 4 - $800-805m
Transformers 3 - $735-750m

3 movies above $700m+ overseas, that's even better than 2009? :whaa: and 2010? :whaa:

Who would've thought, Transformers $700m+ :whaa: :whaa: :whaa:
