Don't blame Franco: He didn't want to do it!
http://www.thewrap.com/awards/column-post/james-franco-dont-blame-me-oscar-show-29303It seems every three weeks I come across another story about the now-infamous Franco/Hathaway partnership at this year's Oscars. Now Hathaway has been the most likable in all this. Not only did she give all she had with the very little (the writing, the co-host) she had, she came off looking good. He came off looking like a dick. He's basically blaming everyone afterwards. But now to say he didn't want to do it? Then why would you ACCEPT the offer? Really, why? There are literally hundreds of better choices. And why would they let him if they felt it would be a bad idea after signing him. Isn't there a diplomatic response like "Franco unable to co-host Oscars because he's doing seventeen other things"? I know no one gives a shit anymore, but I used to like James Franco before all this. Now he just throws everyone else under the bus instead of admitting he sucked at it. The performance will always rise about the material (and vice versa, if need be) if the performer is that good, like Anne Hathaway. Of course the material sucked. It's the Oscars! When has Bruce Vilanch been relevant? Franco proved he isn't able to perform above the material. Good actor, no doubt. But not a good host. And he has no one to blame except himself.

He's saying the same thing about Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which shouldn't be too surprising.
I'm guessing Hollywood's love affair with Franco is just about over.

I don't blame the guy. They are making him do it. I hate when They make me do things that I don't want to do. They are the worst!

Let's just pray that James Franco and Shia LaBoeuf don't appear in a movie together anytime soon...

I think his ego got in the way. He wanted to do it because everyone urged him not to.

This makes me lose a lot of respect for Franco. At least Shia waited till Transformers 2 and Indiana Jones had finished their box office runs before publicly insulting them (also an asshole move). To protect yourself from critical backlash for the movie you are supposed to be promoting is TERRIBLE. If I was a producer I would never hire him after this. Talented as he is this is no way to behave. Take some fucking responsibility for your failures.

Quote: If I was a producer I would never hire him after this. He probably has no expectations to work for those producers again. Sounds like a parting shot to me.

Franco didn't write the script.

Neither did Hathaway, but she was fine. Great even, in retrospect.
