Ah, so you prefer to be against a movie sight unseen.

I don't expect the legs to be that well for HP even without lesser competition. Still though with such huge numbers I think it has a shot to clear $850m mark and if it really over performs then $900m is possible from OS markets. I don't see how this will make more than that.

You keep watching a TV show you don't like? I assume no. You declare it crap and move on.

I watched Heroes almost until the end, even though it wasn't good starting in Season 2 (I watched two more seasons).

Besides, if someone were telling that the TV show greatly improved, I'd give it another look before simply dismissing it.

That's different, season 1 of Heroes was great, you already invested in it, you wanted to see how it ends and was hoping it could turn around (yeah, i was there, too).

There are a bunch of people that'll tell you HP3 is the best in the series, HP4 isn't considered bad either as far as i know, both did nothing for me. I don't like the world Rowling created, the story didn't grab me and the films do a bad job of explaining some things to non book readers.

You haven't met Luna Lovegood, who is the most adorably amazing thing ever created by man or nature. I'm pretty sure your opinion will change immediately to one of reverence for Rowling when you see Luna's name uttered for the first time.

I am little surprised with a decrease on Tuesday, since Tuesdays these days are having cheaper tickets and thus more audience. Great number though, it looks like this will make more than $800m WW after the 2nd weekend, can't see how it misses $1b WW in 3 weeks.

Maybe the typhoon in Japan caused some people to watch it later?

Edit: Maybe a typhoon and this caused the big drop...

Great Tuesday number considering Monday was lifted by the Japanese holiday. I'm assuming a good part of that fall is from Japan.

http://www.screendaily.com/news/distrib ... 92.article

The UK generated $4.5m (£2.8m) for $47.4m (£29.8m);

Germany: $3.3m (€2.3m) for $32m (€22.7m);

France: $3m (€2.1m) for $30.2m (€21.5m);

Japan: ($2.5m (¥201.5m) for $32.4m (¥2.6bn); and

Australia: $2.1m (A$2m) for $31.4m (A$29.4m)

So it dropped from 8 to $2.5 million in Japan.

Yeah Japan had a big holiday so most of the drop was because of Japan.

Monday was Umi no Hi (Potter increased from Sunday), so the drop is expected. Wednesday was Ladies Day (tickets are half price for females), so it'll pick back up again.

Potter should be around 4.2 billion yen ($53 million) after Sunday in Japan. Highest 10-day total ever in USD, and first film to ever gross over $50 million after 10 days.

I personally think it's dropping really well. The domestic market is holding up much better than the past Potter flicks, it's definately gunning for $400m and matching it with both TDK and Pirates 2 at this stage.

That's insane, Potter is definately back to winning ways in Japan. No way this is going to drop below $100m. It'll be gunning for Hp3.

The UK generated $4.5m (£2.8m) for $47.4m (£29.8m);

Germany: $3.3m (€2.3m) for $32m (€22.7m);

France: $3m (€2.1m) for $30.2m (€21.5m);

Japan: ($2.5m (¥201.5m) for $32.4m (¥2.6bn); and

Australia: $2.1m (A$2m) for $31.4m (A$29.4m)

So it dropped from 8 to $2.5 million in Japan.

That's insane pace right across the board, it'll be at $600m by the end of this weekend for sure.

Deathly Hallows Part 2 is more than likely to pass Prisoner of Azkaban in USD, in my opinion.

It would require a gross of 9.7 billion yen, and that figure is pretty much locked up. And, if the dollar stays this terrible throughout the fall, it could reach Chamber of Secret's total of $142 million. A 50/50 chance at the moment I think.

I'd even go further, saying there is a chance it becomes the highest grossing Harry Potter film, surpassing Sorcerer's Stone's $153 million (according to BOM, but that's disputed). Just over 12 billion yen is needed for that to happen right now, and with a multiplier of almost 7 (probably a tad bit high, though On Stranger Tides will finish with a multiplier of 6 even with it's late legs cut short by Harry Potter 7.2 and Transformers 3/Cars 2 later this month), it's sealed.

It would be incredible that after every film since the Sorcerer's Stone has decreased from it's predecessor, the final film ends up the highest grossing (in USD, of course). It'd just barely gross half of what Sorcerer's Stone did in yen, and with less than half the attendance.
