Still, B.O. observers are already claiming a new record in "Potter." One rival studio expects "Part 2" to make close to $195 million through Sunday.

Of its series high 4,375 locations, more than 68% are in 3D.

Well unlike some other reports, looks like 3D sales were quite healthy 68%, isn't this higher than Transformers 3?

Rival studio? Are they sure they're not talking about Warner Bros.?

Arch, I think they meant 68% of the showtimes are in 3D at those 4,375 locations. It doesn't say anything about sales.

68% of shows are in 3D and yet it only made 43% of Friday's gross. Does this mean 29.24% of admissions were in 3D? 70.76% was in 2D?

This is absolutely huge, $75m on Friday, of which i'm sure at least a big portion of that belonged to the UK and Japan. $157.5m, needs just another $143m to hit $300m overseas.

I'm thinking it'll increase to approx $85m-100m on Saturday then drop to about $60-$70m on Sunday for an overseas opening around $310m. Coupled with the domestic opening of $170m+, we have a huge $480m WW opening on our hands.

$249.6m WW Friday

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/b ... ter-212182

Overseas, the pic earned another $75 million on Friday for a three-day international total of $157.5 million, bringing its worldwide cume to a record-breaking $249.6 million.

By all accounts, Deathly Hallows 2 is on track to score the biggest worldwide opening of all time, beating the $394 million earned by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in its debut. Domestically, it's expected to eclipse the record-breaking $158.4 million grossed by Warners' The Dark Knight in its opening weekend.

I would think so, 5-Day openings overseas are pretty common because new releases in some European countries always open on Wednesday.

Hmmm, definately possible. At this stage I see $475m to be the floor, another $25m can come quite easily if it increases by a great deal on Saturday.

I wonder how much the other Potter releases did,

And I really hope they release a special edition of HP7-1 and HP7-2 together. I personally didn't buy the HP7-1 DVD due to the fact that i can wait for HP7-2.

WOW, that's super awesome. Go UK, $14.8m in one day is gargantuan.

With the 3D % being kinda low for a uber blockbuster release; there's still a possibility that TDKR will snatch the OD record again next year. Afterall, TDK's non-midnight gross is still highest of all-time. Factor in IMAX expansion, more theatres and higher ticket prices....we may see the record re-written again.

THough i'm looking to far ahead, this is a momentous time and never before have we seen an increase to this magnitude, this is what makes BO so fun. There are times when a movie just blows your socks off with its BO performance.

Potter is back to set the record straight, i love it. Die you Twihards :funny: :funny: :twisted:

Friday Report: 'Harry Potter' Conjures Opening Day Record

http://boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3210&p=.htm

On Friday, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 soared into the record books with the highest-grossing single day ever. The series finale drew an estimated $92.1 million on around 11,000 screens at 4,375 locations, dethroning The Twilight Saga: New Moon's $72.7 million.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2's first day flew past the previous franchise high of $61.7 million, posted by Deathly Hallows Part 1 last November. It also thoroughly out-distanced The Twilight Saga: Eclipse ($68.5 million) and The Dark Knight ($67.2 million). Deathly Hallows Part 2 is even the champ in terms of estimated attendance.

Included in Deathly Hallows Part 2's historic opening day was its record-shattering midnight start of $43.5 million at 3,800 locations, which topped Eclipse's $30 million. That means that Deathly Hallows Part 2 made $48.6 million for the rest of the day, which still beat the midnight-free grosses of New Moon ($46.4 million), Eclipse ($38.5 million), Deathly Hallows Part 1 ($37.7 million) and Half-Blood Prince ($36 million), though not The Dark Knight ($48.7 million).

Deathly Hallows Part 2 marked Harry Potter's first foray into 3D, and it made a splash with the broadest 3D launch ever (3,100-plus locations, including 274 in IMAX). However, the majority of moviegoers still opted to see the movie in the standard ("2D") format. 3D accounted for around 45 percent of the gross, which was a lower share than Transformers: Dark of the Moon's 60 percent at the same point but in the ballpark of most of this summer's other big movies.

Deathly Hallows Part 2's first day gross alone would rank as the second biggest weekend of 2011 after Transformers: Dark of the Moon. It should easily break The Dark Knight's $158.4 million opening weekend record, though it should be exceptionally front-loaded. Deathly Hallows Part 1's Friday ended up being nearly half of its weekend. If Deathly Hallows Part 2 follows suit, that would mean a weekend gross of $185-190 million.

Since Deathly Hallows Part 2 accounted for nearly three out of every four tickets sold, there was little excitement for the rest of the movies. Transformers: Dark of the Moon retreated 57 percent to an estimated $6.3 million, lifting its tally to $287.9 million in 17 days. It didn't gain ground on its better-attended predecessors.

Well it only needs $28-29m to do so....it'll definately need to increase on Saturday to at least $15-16m if it is to have a shot. HP3s opening stands at just above $43m.

It will however make $40m at least on opening unless there's a drastic drop on Saturday to Sunday.

I think it will do it considering the run of HP7-1.

Having $157.5m would mean it's 3-Days stand as follows:

Harry Potter 7-2: DH - $157.5m ($43.6m Wed + $37.6m Thu + $76.3m Fri)

Wow, running 70% ahead of HBP.......if you multiply that out against HBP's $237m full opening overseas, you get $400m+ :shock: . Not saying it will do that but stilll....worth a thought :mer: Running 45% ahead of HP7-1 if you extrapolate out is 1.45 x $205m = $297.25m.

Saturday is and has always been the biggest day overseas and i think the strong WOM will bring some people back this weekend.

Harry Potter finale races to $158m overseas, $250m global

http://www.screendaily.com/news/distrib ... 16.article

The magic showed little sign of letting up as Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 added $75m in 59 countries on Friday (15) and scored the biggest opening day and single day in UK box office history on $14.8m (£9.3m) from 585 sites.

Compared to other titles in the franchise, by the end of the first Friday the film’s $157.5m international running total is tracking 45% ahead of Part 1 and 70% ahead of The Half-Blood Prince. The North American tally by the end of Friday stood at $92m. The worldwide mark is $249.5m.

In other territory highlights:

Mexico: Ps 71.7m ($6.1m) from 2,126 screens / 3D share 50% — biggest opening day of all time including previews;

Japan: ¥454.3m ($5.7m) from 922 screens / 3D share 69% — biggest Friday opening for a Harry Potter film;

Brazil: R$7m ($4.4m) from 990 screens / 3D share 40% - Warner Bros Pictures International top brass believe this to be the biggest opening day in history, although this is unconfirmed;

Spain: €2.4m ($3.3m) from 870 screens / 3D share 43% — biggest Harry Potter opening day and fourth biggest opening day of all time;

Poland: ZL3.6m ($1.25m) from 236 screens / 3D share 95% — biggest Harry Potter opening day;

Turning to holdover business:

Germany: €3.5m ($4.9m) from 1,641 screens for a running total of €10.1m ($14.4m);

Australia: A$4.5m ($4.8m) from 754 screens for A$15.6m ($16.6m) – second biggest Friday of all time behind the Boxing Day opening day of The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King. Day 3 has grossed more than the opening day of any previous film in the franchise;

France: €2.7m (3.7m) from 1,195 screens for €11.2m ($ 15.7m);

Russia: Rbl 90m ($3.2m) from 1,563 screens for Rbl 318m ($11.3m);

Italy: €1.7m ($2.4m) from 989 screens for €7.1m ($ 10m);

South Korea: KRW 1.9bn ($1.8m) from 590 screens for KRW 5bn ($4.7m) - biggest opening Friday gross in the franchise.

With Wednesday and Thursday included in the OW I think it is pretty much guaranteed that we are going to see $460m-$490m WW total as the new OW benchmark. I see this making another $75m-$80m (while it is the biggest day in OS this would have massive frontloading and thus a slight increase only) Saturday in OS and add another $50m-$55m Sunday. That would mean another $135m or combined with $158m would give $293m or let's just say $300m. Add the domestic total and you can see the $460m-$490m range.

I wonder if it that close to $500m WW mark then will WB push for that mark? Would mean for added publicity.

UNITED KINGDOM - Opening Day

First strike is here! $14.8m ranks as the biggest opening day by far and the biggest single day gross of all-time surpassing HP7-1. It's the first one to gross north of 7m pounds in one day and is just a smidgen below 10m.

If it follows HP7-1's weekend multiplier of 3.11x we got a $46.2m opening 3-Day, enough to claim the overall opening weekend record from HP3 which made $43.75m over 7-Days. It will surely in the process trounce HP7-1's $29.3m 3-Day opening weekend record.

I see it playing out something like:

Fri - $14.8m
Sat - $15m
Sun - $14m
Total = $43.8m

It's going to be very close i think, the question is how big Saturday and Sunday will be.

Harry Potter 7-2: DH - $14.8m (£9.3m Fri - 585)
Harry Potter 7-1: DH - $9.4m (£5.9m Fri)
Harry Potter 3: POA - $9.23m (£5,031,877- Mon - 535)

James Bond: Quantum Of Solace - $8m (£4.94m)
Harry Potter 6: HBP - $7.6m (£4.7m - 1305p)
The Twilight Saga: New Moon - $7.6m (£4.6m - 850p)
Star Wars 3: ROTS - £3,332,202 (490 TC)
Lord Of The Rings: ROTK - $5,214,625 (Wed - £3.1m - 487/1299)
The Da Vinci Code - $5m (£2.6m - 523 TC)
Lord Of The Rings: TTT - ~$4.4m (Wed - £2.43m)
Indiana Jones: The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull - $4.4m
Pirates Of The Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest - $4.25m (£2.3m/ €3.3m)
Transformers 3: Dark Of The Moon - $4.17m (incl. Tue p/v)
Pirates Of The Caribbean 3: At World’s End - $4m (537)
Sex And The City - $4m (460)
Harry Potter: COS - $3.99m (£2.18m - 522)
Harry Potter 1 - $3.9m (£2.1m - 507)

James Bond: Casino Royale - $3.2m (£1.7m)
Pirates Of The Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides - $3.2m (£2m)
Spiderman 2 - $3.1m (£1,686,171 - 504)
Lord Of The Rings: FOTR - $3m (Wed - £2.09m) or $3.7m % Estimate

Friday's drop wasn't so bad in the markets which opened on Wednesday (it actually increased on Friday in Australia), so early signs are pointing to a monstrous return on Saturday. This could well be the first one to crack $100m on a single day overseas. :whaa: :whaa:
