http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118039387'Rings' proves mettle Critic's Notebook: After a decade, Jackson trilogy holds up --- Nice to read articles like this, the franchise has definately aged well and to this day, some scenes in the Trilogy still resonate strongly after the 100th viewing. Some SFX shots are obviously dated, though it blends really well with the story still and nothing can beat the achievement that is Gollum. He still looks fantastic to this day.

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2011/07 ... interview/Rare interview from Enya, i've actually never seen this. The music was one of the biggest highlights for me about LOTRs, i eagerly anticipating this next opera from Howard Shore. I'm also particuarly interested to see which artist he invites to guest perform (vocal or instrumental) on The Hobbit. It adds to the depth and quality of the music that we get some really strong guest vocalists.

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
First look at the three brothers Ori, Nori and Dori! Their description says: Quote: These three brothers, all sons of the same mother, could not be more different from each other. Dori, the oldest, spends much of his time watching out for Ori, the youngest; making sure he’s not caught a chill or got himself killed by Wargs or Goblins. Nobody quite knows what Nori gets up to most of the time, except that it’s guaranteed to be dodgy and quite probably, illegal. Dori, Nori and Ori are intensely loyal to each other – and whilst they are perfectly happy fighting amongst themselves, woe-betide anyone who means harm to one of these brothers. Kinda different than what i had imagined them to look but the more i look at them the more i like them. It's good that they want to differentiate them and not have them all look like Gimli lookalikes.

I particulraly like the design on the left, that hairstyle is just so cool. Can't wait to see the others, they haven't shown Thorin yet, i'm dying to see his hero shot.

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
Was reading people's thoughts on line and they varied from more color to terrific. I think this is a good start, we've still got another 10 dwarves to go.
I do agree though that the color palate revealed in this pic is very subdued, though if you look back at FOTR, all the dwarves including the cameos were all in dark black, blue or red. So this is not totally out of cuff. People just remember Gimli who had the lighter earthy red look.....but he's only 1 dwarf out of a major culture. It's fantastic that there showing us now that each dwarf will have a unique look and personlisation.
Good start, i want to see the other 10 now. And we haven't even seen the elves yet.....WAH....can't wait, this production is looking better and better each week.
I'm liking it that they're showing little bits every other week to build the anticipation. it also helps to release images now officially (which they can control)....rather then it leaking with some dodgey spy cam

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
Peter Jackson has begun adding his own characters to Tolkien's classic story - - I guess he felt The Hobbit would be more politically correct with some female characters, so he made up a lady elf character called Tauriel. Which just goes to show you: no one knows how to fuck up a classic adaptation better than Peter Jackson!

People judge him quite harshly until they see the results on screen and shutup quite quickly The changes he's made to LOTRs now seem like they weren't an issue ever. I won't judge him until i see the portrayal for myself. And boy can i not wait to see the costume and photos of the elves.

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
Bradley is a hater, arguing with him about LOTR/Hobbit is a waste of time. In other news, Oin and Gloin (Gimli's father) got unleashed on the internet: Quote: Distant cousins of Thorin Oakenshield, these two doughty Northern Dwarves join the Company out of a sense of loyalty to their kin, and also because they have a substantial sum of money invested in the venture. Along with Bombur, Gloin is the only other married Dwarf in the Company (there being a shortage of female dwarves in general). His wife is an acclaimed beauty with a particularly fine beard. Gloin is the proud father of a young son, Gimli, who will go on to become part of the famous Fellowship of the Ring.

You can see like father like son in the costume. It's deepish red like Gimli's and has very similar motives.....they're definately handling this really well. I love all the looks so far, from slightly eccentric to traditional to more noble dopey. I'm a bit surprised we're seeing another two now, i wish they slow it down. Too much goodness all in one week. They need to break......people's attention this coming week are obviously with a certain boy wizard. Or perhaps by releasing it now, Warners are trying to play on the nostalgia element.....now that Potter is closing, a small reminder to all the fans out there that there's a certain other epic fantasty release making it's hurrah in the not too distant future.

Deliberately left it for lunch time...LOL And HOLY FUCK!!!! I love Peter for sharing with his fans what they're doing currently, a lot of things struck me when i was watching this 2nd production video: * New Zealand never ceases to amaze with its dazzling landscapes * Andy Serkis and PJ looking very worn down and grey * PJ has finally regained his old form (i.e. the weight he had when he was shooting LOTRs though with just a few more hairs) * Bilbo Baggins....OMG , we finally get to see some facial shots of Martin Freemand and by god does he fit the part perfectly. The scene with him and Elrond (who's sporting a slightly orangy-red-gold costume is fantastic) * I swear in one of the scenes we saw in the clip that there were pictures of elves, one looks like Legolas and others....could it be one of Thranduil's costumes...?? * If they choose that forest in the clip for Mirkwood, i'll be very happy....i've always thought of Mirkwood as something deep green though not as condensed as Fangorn and some of the shots of that forest was fantastic. * They look like they're well on their way in shooting, give sme confidence that next year's release date doesn't look to to be at risk Though it also raises some questions for me.... * A lot of the scenes are obviously filmed on set (PJ confirmed that the majority of the production will)....i just hope and pray that they don't loose the majestic and natural organic quality which was so evident in LOTRs...i hope sets don't stick out when you watch the movie (though seeing that reveal of Andy and PJ on set....it's a welcome releif because i was so emersed in the props and background. * I hope we get to see a lot of natural hero shots and flyovers. I love that about LOTRs * I also hope that they take major risks and gambles like building Muduseld in LOTRs, that was epic and showed on screen it's good that they have not shown the dawrves in action......gives time for the photos to sink in for people....

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
Nice to see fans are still mad about Rings.... 'Sucker Punch,' 'Lord of the Rings' Boxed Set Top DVD Sales Charthttp://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/s ... xed-208453Lord of the Rings is the franchise that wouldn’t die. A boxed set featuring extended versions of the three films on Blu-ray Disc debuted at No. 2 on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, selling nearly 80 percent as many units as Sucker Punch, which bowed at No. 1. Never mind the fact that the trilogy carries a hefty suggested retail price of $119.98 – or that theatrical versions of the three films, also neatly bound in a boxed set, have been available on Blu-ray Disc for more than a year. Not surprisingly, the Lord of the Rings set easily topped Nielsen’s dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart for the week ending July 3, with Sucker Punch – an action fantasy, starring Vanessa Hudgens and several other hot young actresses, that grossed $36.4 million in theaters – debuting at No. 2.Both releases are from Warner Home Video

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
On this topic of fucking up a series....have a read at this thread from TORN, there are some really good thoughts in this thread comparing Phantom Menace to The Hobbit and this being a prequel of sorts... Obviously this is from a LOTR fans point of view... http://newboards.theonering.net/forum/g ... ead#unreadThere's obviosuly a lot of parallels one can draw between both and i personally am on the fence here, i can't disregard both sides of the story. On one side, it's definately true that Hobbit will carry with it a lot of baggage from LOTRs (there's a price to pay for success) very muich like Phantom Menace. Audiences expectations are sky high and people (fans even more so) will judge more freely. The risk is that the need to please fans may start to affect production, i.e. things getting too big (King Kong), trying to emulate the success of LOTRs. They're treading a very fine line....anticipation this time around will probably be even more than when FOTR first came out. Audiences nowadays in general expect much more, especially with all the information made available before a films release. On the other side, i'm quitely hopeful that PJ knows what he's doing and that he'll use this risk as a challenge and driver. Also i agree with some other fans comments about this not being like Phantom Menace in a sense that the creative team are all returning and the book itself is a powerful reference point.

http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2011/07 ... og-update/WB doesn't really need to promote in New Zealand, the 2nd Production video is automatically getting news coverage. Ah, New Zealand, gotta love them over the pond. They better come out in force next year for The Hobbit, we need to reclaim the NZ box office record precious

He definately looks to slim and elf like for my liking. Also, Bombur's pretty classic i think. I wonder if it'll do well in France, afterall he does look very much like Obelix and very scandinavian. Is this there way of solidifying the Northern Euopean ticket I wondered what that thing is on Bifur's head....looks pretty weird to me, i don't know what to make out of it.

Re: THE HOBBIT: An Unexpected Journey (WW ASSAULT)
Out of all the Dwarves that's been released to date, my vote for best look is probably Gloin. Very Dwarven styling though new and fresh. Strangely, my next vote goes to Nori and his outlandish starfish hair look. It's pretty eye grabbing and daring. 1) Gloin 2) Nori 3) Oin 4) Ori 5) Dori 6) Bombur 7) Bofur 8) Bifur 9) Fili 10) Kili I don't like the Fili and Kili look, they're too slim and strange looking for my tastes. Not exactly sure what they are thinking First dissapointment of the Production to date...i hope i grow to love it...or they do a last minute redesign....i doubt it though

John Nesbitt also has a similar build and it wasn't too bad how he turned out, something more earthy and organic. Kili just seems too clean cut. He belongs with the Elves of Mirkwood moreso than a squadron of dwarves
