 Re: Insidious
Yeah, I hated this. But I also disliked Dead Silence a lot as well. I thought it started out decently enough but it got completely stupid by the middle. Definitely a missed opportunity. 4/10

 Re: Insidious
It's far better than Dead Silence, though Dead Silence is better than Saw. I'm glad critics liked Insidious (it's 64% on RT ATM), and obviously audiences are digging it.

 Re: Insidious
I HATED this movie. The third act was AWFUL and literally ruined the entire thing. What a piece of shit. It's a shame this is taking away Scream 4's business. D+

 Re: Insidious
The last half isn't as great or scary as the first, but I didn't find it bad. Overall it's one of the scariest movies to come along in some time.

 Re: Insidious
It's not scary AT ALL. It tries hard but fails every time. The main demon in particular is ridiculously goofy.

It's really creepy and much better than Scream 4.

 Re: Insidious
i find it totally refreshing that a film like insidious - which besides its problems is both narratively and aesthetically bold/interesting - is running box office laps around a movie like scream 4, which was crushingly ordinary and boring. even when insidious became somewhat laughable, i still wanted to know where it was going and what crazy shit james wan was going to do next. on the other hand, i just wanted scream 4 to end.

 Re: Insidious
It's exactly the same as Poltergeist, and goes so far as to show why it was smart of Poltergeist not to actually show the other side.
I'm also a little baffled at your wondering where it was going, since it's amazingly obvious the moment the old woman in photos is introduced as to what the ending is going to be.

 Re: Insidious
Insidious is one of the best horror films in quite some time. I don't really consider Black Swan or even Shutter Island horror films (the latter to me is more suspense) so I have to look back to probably even before the first Paranormal Activity to I don't know when but the straight horror is done so well. It has a couple of the "gotcha" scare moments but the film doesn't feel like a by the book horror film that is usually seen now by such films as the recent A Nightmare on Elm Street. It's simplicity in filming and story really help and make the scares that much more effective. Also the acting is actually pretty good given that it is a horror film. Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson work very well together with Byrne shining in the first half and Wilson taking over for the second half. There has been some debate about the last third and how it takes away from the film. Sure the top scares aren't all there as seen in the two thirds before but the entire ideas surrounding those scenes keep the film that much more interesting. A film like this gives me hope that the horror genre still has some life in it. Oh and too, this was probably the most cowardly I've been during a movie in a very long time. ***
* Probably the highest I go with horror. I don't think I can ever give one four stars

 Re: Insidious
I would assume Black Swan isn't considered horror, having seen it. Unless you find girl-on-girl making out to be horrifying. And I surely do not!

 Re: Insidious
Read some reviews on Amazon. A lot of people who don't like horror said they weren't expecting it to be one and they didn't like all of the nasty scenes with gore. I personally don't think it's that far-fetched to consider it horror. I think it's more of a psychological drama/thriller, but it certainly has horror elements.

Black Swan is a horror film, IMO.

INSIDIOUS
I enjoyed this horror type picture. It was well acted and I liked the story. There were more than enough frightful moments to keep mr on the edge of my seat at home. Kind of wished I had seen this with a full audience now.

 Re: Insidious
Disagree with the consensus. Was somewhat disinterested by the typicalness of the first half until but the second half grabbed my attention with genuine tension despite similarities to Poltergeist. B+
